Directions to Chalet Chocard Directions to Chalet Chocard Argentière from Geneva Airport by road • This route avoids the centre of Geneva and is usually quicker though about 14km longer. The toll cost is the same as driving through Geneva city centre. The route is about 100km and should take no more than an hour. You will need a total of €5.30 for the two péage (toll) points for a typical car. The first is €1.70, the second €3.60. All major credit cards are accepted 24/7 but don’t get money from Geneva airport – Swiss Francs are no use! • To summarise, follow the signs to France and once in France, follow the signs to Chamonix Mont-Blanc. It couldn’t be easier but to be a bit more specific… • On leaving the airport join the main road, Route De Pré-Bois. Follow the green motorway signs to France along a straight road for about 1km. There are a couple of comedy signs which make it look like France is off to the left – ignore them and carry on straight until you arrive at a T-junction with traffic lights. • At the T-junction turn left onto the Route de Vernier. • Immediately move into the right lane (bus lane) and turn right down the slip road. • Drive about 150m down the slip road onto the motorway sign-posted France. • The E62-A1-E25 motorway takes you to the border (Bardonnex) with France. • Once in France follow the signs Chamonix Mont-Blanc. • As you near Chamonix, you will pass several roundabouts skirting round the town. Go straight over all of them following signs to Martigny in Switzerland. • The road bends rounds to the left and you will cross the railway line. At the next large roundabout, turn right towards Les Praz/Argentière/Martigny (Suisse). • Follow this road for several miles, signposted to Argentière and Martigny all the way. You will pass through Les Praz, crossing the railway line a couple of times. The road then rises and passes through a short tunnel before heading into Argentière. • Continue through Argentière and approximately 500 metres after the end of the shops, take a right hand fork signposted to Montroc/Le Tour. Drive through Montroc and continue climbing all the way to Le Tour on “Route du Tour”. • Immediately after the bridge at the bottom of the lift station car park, turn right into Chemin de la Coulaz. Towards the end of the road there is a road sign on the left marked Chemin des Lauzes (Chemin Pieton) – this is footpath, so you will need to park here and walk to the chalet. Take this path and the chalet is the third on the left No 94. There is a Chalet Chocard sign next to the door. Transport with Baggage Our baggage couriers (Taxi Besson) have two seats available in their van, which are available on a first come basis to ill or injured hikers who have booked baggage transfer.     Trip Factsheet: Mont Blanc Climber Weeks Chamonix The town of Chamonix Mt-Blanc is at 1042m (3,396 ft) above sea level. It sits at the foot of Mont Blanc. It is considered by many as Europe's mecca for outdoor sports. Unlike many of the purpose built resorts, Chamonix is a proper working town with a large population of about 12,000 inhabitants. This number can be boosted by as many as 80 - 100,000 during the peak months in summer and winter. Mont Blanc (4,810m/15,781ft) Mont Blanc is the highest Mountain in Western Europe. It is located in the Graian Alps (at 45°1′1″N 6°51′54″E) on the border between France and Italy. It was first climbed in 1786 by Jacques Balmat and Michel-Gabriel Paccard. In recent years approximately 20,000 people reach the summit each year – a success rate of about 60%. There are many different routes to the summit, the most popular being the ‘Voie des Cristalliers’ via the Dôme du Goûter, and the Bosses ridge, an exposed and elegant snow arête leading directly to the summit. This route is graded PD and has up to 1600m of ascent on the summit day. The route requires 2 days – the first to get to one of the huts (Tête-Rousse or Goûter) and the second to climb and descend back to Chamonix. Summit day is an 8-12 hour round trip and involves walking and scrambling on steep snow and ice up to about 35 degrees. Travel to Chamonix The most convenient airport is Geneva and from here the transfer time up to Chamonix by road is just 1 hr 15mins.
