Communications and PR 14 1 Foreword Gaelic games in Europe have grown rapidly since four clubs came together in Amsterdam in 1999 to establish the European County Board of the GAA. So, as we enter our 20th year, it is entirely appropriate that we celebrate the fact that over 90 clubs from more than 20 countries now cater for thousands of youths and adults who play gaelic football, camogie, hurling, handball and rounders across the continent. Any organisation that wishes to remain vibrant and successful needs to review, reflect and renew itself on an ongoing basis to ensure that it remains relevant to its members. While good progress was made in implementing our 2016-2018 Strategic Plan, we must also acknowledge that there was room for improvement. New issues have also emerged and more will do so in the coming years. That is why my priority on being elected GGE chair was to put in place a process to identify what we do well, what we can do better and create a plan to address future challenges.

Jake O’ Sullivan originally from Charleville, County Cork and currently representing Paris, France, County Europe will represent Europe in the Poc Fada Finals of 2012. Jake hopes to become Europe’s first ever winner of the event. The Poc Fada now in its fifty first year traditionally begins at "An Fhána Mór", Annaverna, County Louth, competitors must puck a sliotar with a hurley to the top of Annaverna Mountain, "An Céide," and onwards to "Carn an Mhadaidh"' and after a short break continue down to "An Gabhlán," finishing back at "An Fhána Mór," Annaverna. The whole course measures 5 kilometres (3.1 miles) with all the Senior Men competing for the Setanta Cup. (Jake O’Sullivan gets ready to take a free at the Luxembourg tournament in May 2012 for the Paris Gaels. Jake had a fantastic year being one of Europe’s top scorers and one of the most accurate free takers in the Hurling Championship. It has already been a fantastic year for the Paris Hurling and Camogie teams of 2012 with the rejuvenation and performances of the Men’s Hurling team under the stewardship of Manni Kreuer. Jake was a vital part of this hurling rebirth for this great European club with its fantastic tradition of sporting success. The Paris Camogie team won the Camogie Championship of 2012 with victory in 3 out of 4 tournaments. Paris also held the Camogie workshop at the start of the 2012 season and its results paid dividends as we had an extremely competitive and unpredictable Camogie Championship.

In order to give designers some inspiration for the design the following facts may be of use. There are various countries in the geographic region under the auspices of the Board which caters for the entire EU, excluding the UK and Ireland, but also including other states within the continent of Europe. Currently there are over 50 clubs, and 20+ groups starting clubs, in 20 countries including: Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Estonia, German, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Channel Islands, Gibraltar, Italy. The Board caters for all Gaelic games codes:- camogie, hurling, football, ladies football. We have male and female players both youth and adult. Our work includes administration of the organisation and of the games. The Board is affiliated to the three Gaelic Games organisations whose logos are depicted below. We also support coaching, refereeing, promotion of the Irish language and culture etc. The logo might reflect the GAA vision Our vision is that everybody has the opportunity to be welcomed to take part in our games and culture, to participate fully, to grow and develop and to be inspired to keep a lifelong engagement with our Association.
