They work and play exceptionally well together. Ofsted 4th October 2016 Parents describe the school as ‘phenomenal’ in its pastoral care for children, embracing the whole family. The Curriculum All areas of the National Curriculum are taught across the key stages and we aim to give our children the best possible start by developing the key skills in maths, literacy and ICT. We have good facilities for ICT and believe it should be at the heart of 21st century education. Much of our curriculum is practical – we believe that children learn by being active and doing. Trips and visits play a vital role in our school and classes are encouraged to get out and about as often as possible! Music, sport and the arts play an important part in our curriculum too. Children in Reception follow the “Early Years Foundation Stage” guidance which encourages learning through play activities with more structured learning developing when the child is ready to learn. There are two classes: a reception an infant class (Class 1) and a junior class (Class 2). Curriculum planning takes into account the differentiation of age and ability within each teaching group and a variety of teaching and learning styles is used accordingly. Reception children have their own teaching assistant who works closely with the teachers in Class 1 in the planning, delivery and assessment of their education. Pastoral Care and Discipline In class and at play, our pupils are supervised to the highest level. Our staff are interested in the emotional well-being and development of all children as individuals. They are able to offer guidance, support and understanding to foster self-discipline and independence. A friendly atmosphere in which politeness, respect and Christian values are highly valued provides the context for this. All the children are encouraged to be aspirational and take pride in their school work and this is reinforced consistently with praise and encouragement. We have behaviour and discipline policies which set out in some detail the types of behaviours that are acceptable and unacceptable.
