19 Report from Orkney Kim Allen

Just a brief note to let you know there was a 100% turn-out of Orkney based Morgan F Types (both of us!!) today as our Vintage Club put on a display in support of the Aviation Festival. The venue was the remains of a WW2 military airfield in the Birsay parish, known variously as HMS Tern and RNAS Twatt at different times during the war. The Birsay Heritage Trust is attempting to and renovate, where possible, some of the remaining buildings including the Control Tower. As the weather was pretty good for Orkney the numbers attending the open day exceeded the expectations of the organisers and I heard an estimate of more than 1000 folks, rather better than the 200-300 at the previous event. The cars on display ranged from the 1920s (Bullnose Morris and Model A Ford) through the 1940s (F Types and an open MG), 1950s (Sunbeam Talbot, MG Magnette), 1960s (Sunbeam Rapier, Humber , Triumph 2000, Hillman Imp) to more modern vehicles such as a Ford Capri 2.8i and Golf convertible. They seemed to generate quite a bit of interest and the Morgans got plenty of close inspection and the usual range of The Editors commendations Kim, for questions from the younger visitors who had resisting the obvious and banal photo- not seen many three wheelers before. graphic temptation.
