So, I guess I must be having fun.. ☺ July saw the inaugural running of the SCCQ supported Targa Tibrogargan organized solely by fellow SCCQ member Michael Dwyer. Those of you who missed this, MUST consider it for next year… I’d like to think it could become (to use Mark Derbyshire’s words) the Club’s ‘Flagship Event’ for future years… A BIG Thank You to Michael Dwyer for all the hard work that clearly went into this event. Due to a clash of dates, Anita and I unfortunately were unable to attend the Christmas in July dinner on Bribie Island. I understand it was a very well attended event with lots of good food and company. I’m sure there will be a separate report to read in the magazine. Lots of future events coming up, two of the most important for all members are the Sprite Expo and the Christmas Dinner and Awards Presentation. Sprite Expo will be as last year, at the Pelican Park, Hornibrook Esplanade, Clontarf QLD 4019 on September 16th.. Remember this year has marked the 60th Anniversary of the launch of our beloved Austin Healey Sprite (the Bugeye or as I know it, the Frogeye), so please if you have a Mk1 Sprite, please try to bring it along..Remember, it doesn’t have to be a show car, any condition will do.. There is plenty of space for trailer parking if your car is not on the road… We are looking for a record attendance which we hope will attract local and national Media interest… For the Christmas Dinner and Awards Presentation, we’ve just managed to secure and book the Auchenflower Ballroom at the Albert River Winery for our sole use on December 15th. Prices on a par with last year and of course, Anita will be happy to take payments again in stages or fully in advance from now. Please call her to make your booking and payment on 0438 771 573 or email her [email protected] As you may know, Anita and I have both been members of the UK based ‘Midget and Sprite Club for many years, Anita a past Treasurer and I still hold the position of Technical Advisor which I have been for 12 or so years. Your Club, the SCCQ is now a member of MASC and as such, any member of the SCCQ visiting the UK, will be welcomed at any event where the MASC have a presence. The Club magazine is also in a digital format, but can be shared with any SCCQ member upon request. In August, Anita and I depart for a few weeks in the UK, we will be attending the MASC 60th anniversary weekend at Wroxall Abbey where I’m sure we’ll be catching up with many Sprite and Midget friends and making new acquaintances too. We’ll also be attending the Goodwood Revival meeting where I look forward to catching up with old racing friends and seeing all those wonderful historic cars… I’m certain we’ll be posting lots of pictures on Facebook for you all to drool over.. ☺ Facebook is fast becoming the Clubs message board; events and other activities are constantly being posted and updated… The Website is also a great ‘Front Page’ for the Club, attracting membership and interest from all over Australia and even further afield. If you don’t already use Facebook, I’d urge you to log in and find us. Our page is ONLY open to SCCQ members so anything posted or shared stays within the ‘family’… Finally, it’s cold out there in the early mornings and evenings at the moment, but the days are still nice and warm and dry… perfect for driving and enjoying our cars… Remember, the more you use your classic car, the more reliable it is… Please support YOUR Club and it’s members who put in their own time and effort to make it what it is for YOU… Runs and events give opportunity for members to meet and new potential members to find us. Racing usually starts about 8am. Spectators are welcome. Sunday 26th August – Hinterland Run with Rod Constable Meet at Auto Barn, 379 Morayfield Road Morayfield (Exit 146 from Highway) 9.00 am for 9.30 departure. We will drive the back streets to Dayboro for morning tea. After morning tea we will be heading along Mount Mee for a leisurely drive over Ocean View, Mt Mee and Delaneys Creek and proceed to The Coffee Club at Beerwah for lunch.

    Lot E/1 The Star Lot for this auction is this fine copy of the leather-bound commemorative photographic album produced by Jaguar Cars after the world record run at the Montlhéry circuit in August 1952. At the front is a quite exceptional group of Jaguar autographs. Sir William Lyons heads the list, along with the likes of Bill Haynes and Arthur Whittaker them the drivers and other members of the team. A unique group of associated Montlhéry memorabilia accompanies the album. The very rare menu for the Reunion Party on 27 Oct 1952 at which the albums were presented, two newspaper clippings related to the record run, an official Jaguar Montlhéry Christmas card, contemporary hand written details of Records Broken and Records Bettered and a Fine copy of the scarce ‘Jaguar Proves It’ booklet produced by Shell to celebrate their contribution.   • Electric Vehicle Charging Points in Brighton & Hove
    Measure title: Electric Vehicle Charging Points City: Brighton & Hove Project: Archimedes Measure number: 2 Executive summary This measure involved the installation of 8 electric vehicle charging points, on-street in Brighton & Hove, and was the first of its type in the UK. The charging points are all powered by sustainably generated electricity. The measure helped to realise the potential for densely located fuelling stations to impact on the take up of alternative fuels, and tested the belief that scarcity of supply is holding back the wider take up of electrically powered vehicles. Research was conducted in summer 2009 which indicated there was only one company in the UK, Elektromotive Ltd, who had experience of installing on-street EV charging points. Site visits were conducted to look for suitable installation points, primarily looking for sites with high visibility, easy access and safety for users while using the charging points, and the close proximity of an electrical power supply to the proposed site. The first 4 charging points were installed in September 2009, with a further 4 in January 2011. Registration for membership of the scheme opened in February 2012. Evaluation for this measure has predominantly focused on monitoring the usage of the scheme, and exploring social awareness and acceptance. Due to slow take-up of the scheme, and the relatively small scale of its impact, indicators on air quality, emissions, and modal shift have proved less significant compared to the social indicators. Calculations of carbon savings from the operation and usage of the scheme have been measured using actual electricity consumption data and conversions based upon national averages (these calculations have been made by Elektromotive).
