FEBRUARY 2013 VOL 1 ISSUE 1 CDHBU Past Players Newsletter Welcome . Welcome to the first issue of the CDHBU Past Players Newsletter. This season the club has set up a Past Players Group in the effort to get more of our past players back to the club. With three former clubs merged into one the Club has plenty of players that have played for either Coreen, Daysdale, Hopefield-Buraja and CDHBU. With the help of Christ Scott (Coreen), Alan Norman (Daysdale), Greg Filliponi (Hopefield- Buraja) and Shane Norman (CDHBU) the club is holding their first Past Players function this season on 27th April . Season 2013. Home Games for Season 2013. The CDHBU football department has made a big Saturday 6th April – Walla Walla – Round 1. effort to recruit players for season 2013 in the aim to be very competitive in the Hume League. Saturday 27th April – Billabong Crows – Round 4. This has seen the team coached by Brad Talbot Saturday 11th May – Lockhart – Round 6. (pictured) recruit Sam Burdon (Wahgunyah) as assistant coach, Sean Curtis (Rutherglen), Jeremy Saturday 1st June – Brock-Burrum – Round 8. Stevenson (Barooga), Corey Smith (Cor/R’glen), Josh Lewis (Rennie) and Luke Bryon (Wahgunyah). Saturday 15th June – Henty – Round 10. As well as resigning a vast majority of the 2012 Saturday 29th June – Culcairn – Round 12. side including Andrew Ollington, Joel Rippingale, Michael Kruen and Matt Robinson. Saturday 27th July – Magpies – Round 16 The coaching staff for the season is Brad Talbot Saturday 10th August – Jindera – Round 18. remaining in charge of the seniors and Clint Renner the reserves. Saturday 24th August – Howlong – Round 20. Peter Rippingale will remain in charge of developing the clubs promising thirds list and he will be assisted by club legend Rod "Whale" Lavis. Darrell Bush will also assist Peter and the club is confident its future stars are in good hands. Mark O'Donoghue will remain as the fourth grade coach as well as expanding his involvement in the club to encompass the chairman of selectors' role. FEBRUARY 2013 VOL 1 ISSUE 1 Premierships. Seniors As a former player you are invited out to Coreen 2007 – CDHBU to celebrate our first Past Player Function with a 2006 – CDHBU day of watching our current side take on Billabong 1996 – Hopefield Buraja Crows. The club has four football sides with the 1995 – Hopefield Buraja Fourths starting at 9.50am, the Thirds at 11am, 1994 – Daysdale the Reserves at 12.30pm and the Seniors at 1991 – Coreen 2.10pm 1987 – Coreen 1982 – Hopefield Buraja On the day we will have memorabilia from 1980 – Coreen seasons past for all of the clubs along with an 1978 – Coreen official welcome to the past players at 1pm. 1975 – Coreen 1974 – Coreen The club will be running a bus back to Corowa at 1973 – Hopefield Buraja the end of the day for those that would like to use 1964 – Daysdale it. 1962 – Daysdale 1961 – Daysdale Social Functions. 1960 – Hopefield Buraja 1951 – Coreen Below are the clubs social functions for season 1950 – Hopefield Buraja 2013. Follow CDHBU on www.cdhbu.sportingpulse.net Coreen was able to claim their 13 th premiership this season, and first since 1980 under the coaching of Mark Cook. The team went well during the home and away season to finish second on the ladder. The boys then lost the second semi but were able to reverse the result in a thrilling grand final to come out victors by 5 points. The reserves under Anthony Murphy were also strong through the home and away season to also finish in second spot on the ladder. But after making the grand final, injuries took their toll as they were well beaten. Congratulations to our Best & Fairest winners in Dominic Carroll (Seniors) and Sid Bedford (Reserves). Milestones achieved during the season were John Hanrahan (250 Senior Games) & Shane Burdon (50 Senior games). Also John Hanrahan and Terry Sharp were awarded Life Memberships. A big thanks to the hard working ladies auxiliary, our sponsors and trophy donors for their continual support.     Volume 13 No 2 July 2010 Citation for the Wagga Wagga Teachers’ College 1947-1971 The University Council of Charles Sturt University is set to approve the nominal naming of a cottage on the Wagga Campus. The name will be WATAL (Wagga Alumni Teachers Association Lodge). Below is the citation, which was prepared by the historian Dr Nancy Blacklow. The Wagga Wagga community had been pressing for a teachers’ college for over twenty years when, prior to World War II, the Copland Estate was chosen as a possible site. After the war however, this site was no longer appropriate as the Technical College and Wagga Wagga High School Farm occupied a large portion of the land. The former site of the No. 1 RAAF Hospital near the Showground in the fledgling suburb of Turvey Park was therefore chosen. This provided Wagga Wagga Teachers’ College (WWTC) with a 65 acre block upon which to establish itself. Students attended their first lectures at the new College on 9 June 1947, with the official opening a year later on 29 September 1948. Wagga Wagga Teachers’ College was the first wholly residential co-educational tertiary institution in Australia. When the College opened, a total of 150 students was enrolled. The initial session (known as the “Pioneers”) was drawn from all over the State, and included a number of ex-Service and mature-age students. By 1948 the Wagga Wagga Teachers’ College campus comprised three blocks of women’s dormitories, approximately ten male dormitories, three lecture blocks, gymnasium, assembly hall, administration block, dining room and common room.
