We have become a nation of “NO” and “Can’t do it”, regardless of the fact that our regulatory standards are second to none. Meanwhile, the rest of the world marches along building stronger nations by investing in country- building projects, like the Russian pipeline to China or Australia’s LNG industry. Imagine if the railway was never built (or the Saint Lawrence Seaway, or Hydro-Quebec, or Hydro-BC to name but a few examples), because a handful of people didn’t want new construction in their area. Failing to secure free markets for our energy exports relegates Canada to the status of “Economic Colony” for the United States, reducing our prosperity. I believe the Petronas LNG project is one of the last chances we will have to build our nation, or at least pick up some of the global energy markets’ scraps. Please support this project in any way possible, with one thing in mind only: Canada’s ability to make the world a better place depends on Canada remaining relevant. Shrivel up and live as an economic backwater, and nobody will even invite us to the table, let alone learn from our high standards. Please find attached a letter of support for the Petronas LNG project. Most sincerely, Michael Belenkie, P. Eng. Michael Belenkie, P. Eng. Pacific NorthWest LNG (“PNW”) has participated in a lengthy and comprehensive environmental review of the PNW project. I have been impressed with PNW’s willingness to incorporate feedback from the local community and First Nations into the design of the facility, and I believe we can have responsible industrial development that maintains the integrity of the environment for all Canadians. PNW is willing and eager to invest billions of dollars into the Canadian economy. This investment will provide near and long term employment for Canadians. It will also generate billions of dollars of tax and royalty income for municipal, provincial and federal governments for decades to come. This is especially relevant in these times of slow economic growth. The government has stated many times that building of infrastructure is key to helping the Canadian economy in these difficult times. PNW is proposing to do exactly that in a responsible and environmentally sensitive manner. PNW deserves the Canadian Government’s strong support. I am asking the Government of Canada to approve Pacific NorthWest LNG’s environmental certificate. Sincerely, Michael E. Belenkie, P.
