LAWRIE & SYMINGTON LTD Sale of Poultry LAWRIE & SYMINGTON LTD LANARK AGRICULTURAL CENTRE Sale of Poultry, Waterfowl and Pigs, etc. Thursday 9th July, 2015 Ringstock at 10.30 a.m. General Hall at 11.00 a.m. Lanark Agricultural Centre Sale of Poultry and Waterfowl Special Conditions of Sale The Sale will be conducted subject to the Conditions of Sale of Lawrie and Symington Ltd as approved by the Institute of Auctioneers and Appraisers in Scotland which will be on display in the Auctioneer’s office on the day of sale. In addition the following conditions apply. 1. No animal may be sold privately prior to the sale, but must be offered for sale through the ring. 2. Animals which fail to reach the price fixed by the vendor may be sold by Private Treaty after the Auction. All such sales must be passed through the Auctioneers and will be subject to full commission. Reserve Prices should be given in writing to the auctioneer prior to the commencement of the sale. 3. All stock must be numbered and penned in accordance with the catalogued number on arrival at the market. 4. All entries offered for sale must be pre-entered in writing and paid for in full with the entries being allocated on a first come first served basis by the closing date or at 324 2x2 Cages and/or at 70 3x3 Cages, whichever is earliest. 5. No substitutes to entries will be accepted 10 days prior to the date of sale. Any substitutes brought on the sale day WILL NOT BE OFFERED FOR SALE. 6. No unbooked entries will be accepted on the day of sale. 7. All purchasers please note that there is a 5% buyer’s commission on all lots bought on the day. 8. Anybody wishing to bid on or purchase any lots must first purchase a bidders number for £2 at the main office. 9. All Waterfowl must have water provided by vendor Consumer and Trading Standards The Transport of Animals (Cleansing and Disinfection) (Scotland) Regulations 2005. The above Regulations came into force on the 27 th of January 2006. Animals to be transported:- • Hoofed animals • Domestic fowl, turkeys, geese, ducks, guinea fowls, quails, pigeons, pheasants, partridges and ratites. • Racing Pigeons The Regulations require that any bird purchased from a sale at a market can only be transported in a container that has been cleansed and disinfected before the animal or bird is loaded onto it. It also means that any carrying container should be of a type that can be cleansed and disinfected so a cardboard box would not be suitable for this purpose. All cleansing and disinfection must be carried out so as to reduce the risk of disease transmission by transporting. Failing to comply with this requirement is an offence under the Regulations. Any person found guilty of an offence under these Regulations shall be liable of a fine up to £5000. For further advice please contact the Animal Health and Welfare Officer on 01355 806865. CLEANF npip! ^H^IPB^pV BJ B* The National Poultry Improvement Plan became operative July 1, 1935, and the National Turkey Improvement Plan became operative September 25, 1943, with the approval of the Secretary of Agriculture. On December 3, 1971, the two Plans were combined under one title, "The National Poultry Improvement Plan," with separate provisions applicable to the different types of poultry. The Plan operates under the authority of an appropriation made by Congress to the United States Department of Agriculture to be used in cooperation with the State authorities in the administration of regulations for the improvement of poultry, poultry products, and hatcheries. Authority for the administration of the Plan is now contained in the Department of Agriculture Organic Act of 1944, as amended (7 U.S.C. 429). Provisions of the Plan are changed from time to time to conform with the development of the industry and with new information as it becomes available. These changes are based on recommendations made at the Biennial National Plan Conferences by official delegates representing participating breeders, hatcheries, and flockowners from all cooperating States. Current provisions of the Plan are described in a publication entitled "The National Poultry Improvement Plan and Auxiliary Provisions." This is because it is easier to vent sex the day-olds of these species with very little training. Moreover, crossbreeding is rarely an option for exhibition and ornamental breeders. The exception is in commercial table duckling production where unfortunately since only white breeds are used, sex-linkage cannot be exploited. There may be some, however, who feel unable to attempt vent sexing, particularly with goslings which are more difficult to manipulate and more vulnerable to rough handling. Others may be interested in sex-linked inheritance for its own sake regardless of any practical advantage. THE PRINCIPLES OF SEX – LINKAGE Without going into too much technical detail I would like to explain the principles underlying sex-linkage. For a more detailed account of these principles the reader is referred to the excellent bulletin by Chris Hann (1966).

Unless otherwise stated at the time of sale (either by the auctioneer or on the catalogue) all livestock are sold as having completed all withdrawal periods for any veterinary medicines they have received. For any animals under treatment the details must be completed in the movement declaration form. It is the responsibility of the buyer to ensure that any animal destined for the food chain are outwith any withdrawal periods. Moreover, the Size of the duck egg is 10-15 gram greater than chicken egg. They have more profitable and prolific life because they lay eggs during second and third year also. Hence it will decrease the nourish cost. In general, ducks have the habit of laying eggs in the morning time since it is very easy to collect those eggs and have no fear about the missing of the eggs. Duck farming is having interdependent association with paddy cultivation, so paddy cultivation and ducks can be combined in the whole paddy agriculture extents. These are reasonably intellectual birds and they can be simply skilled for their everyday routine and it decreases the labour for supervision. They are pretty resilient birds and can be definitely agonised and are unaffected to common avian diseases. Broiler or green ducks are very fast developing than chicken, with improved growth ratio and feed proficiency. In India, duck farming is an emerging and can be developed by many places by the farmers on their own interest. It desires lot of consciousness in people for its improvement in prospecting future. Duck farming is a very lucrative business. Ducks are highly valuable birds around the world, reared for egg and meat production. Ducks occupy an important position next to chicken farming in India. They form about 10% of the total poultry population and contribute about 6- 7% of total eggs produced in the country.
