His shop quickly becomes the premier outfitter for hunting and fishing trips throughout the Pacific Northwest. 1938 THE ORIGINAL THE GLACIER PRIEST OUTFOUTFITT EXP Father Bernard Hubbard, “The Glacier Priest,” embarks on another of his famous 31 scientific explorations to Alaska and the Arctic. Hubbard later endorses Eddie Bauer down gear, including the quilted, down-filled Yukon Parka, Eddie Bauer’s EQUIPPING best-selling jacket for more than three decades. 1945 ADVENTURE ALASKA OUTFITTING Eddie Bauer begins selling his down products via a new mail-order catalog and soon becomes the premier American outfitter for hunting, fishing, flying and adventure travel expeditions to remote TRAVEL destinations such as Alaska and the Yukon. FOR NINE DECADES Since the beginning, Eddie Bauer has focused on adventure. From EDI our founding as a Seattle hunting and fishing shop through our decades outfitting expeditions to the world’s highest peaks to our modern-day First Ascent achievements, the Eddie Bauer brand has traveled to the most remote and challenging corners of our world. This trip list is just a small sampling of the explorations of our brand. ® And digging back into our archives, it’s clear that, for all the successful objectives reached, the experience for each explorer was even more about the process of getting there. During the past three years, we have re-embraced this wanderlust by returning to the expedition extremes of Everest, Alaska and Antarctica, but we have also revisited adventure by putting up new routes in the Wadi Rum with Caroline George, running un-kayaked waterfalls in the Brazilian Amazon with Ben Stookesberry, and embarking on a never ticked challenge of summiting the three highest peaks on all seven continents with Jake Norton. 2009 THE LAUNCH OF FIRST ASCENT Yet at the top of our trip list in 2011 was Jon Turk and Erik Boomer’s Eddie Bauer returns to Everest, where it launches its new First Ascent line with a team of the world’s fi rst human-powered circumnavigation of Ellesmere Island, a 1,485- leading guides, including Ed Viesturs, the first American to summit all of the world’s 8,000-meter mile loop made more epic by massive ice fl oes, brutal frostbite peaks without supplemental oxygen.
