MAYOR's REPORT to COUNCIL 19 April 2017- 16 May 2017 MAYOR'S REPORT TO COUNCIL 19 April 2017- 16 May 2017 • Attended Bendigo Senior Secondary College ANZAC Day Ceremony and morning tea. • Attended and spoke at the City of Greater Bendigo Budget Media Briefing. • Attended the Turning of the Sod for the Gardens for the Future at the Bendigo Botanic Gardens Bendigo • Met with the 2030 Greater Victoria Commonwealth Games Taskforce members • Met with Redesdale community members as part of the Redesdale & District Association Inc. committee meeting • Officially opened the Queer Country Art Show held at Dudley House. • Spoke at the Canterbury Park Community Pavilion Official Opening • Attended and welcomes participants for the O’Keefe Run Cycle Walk Dinner at the Axedale Tavern • Attended and spoke at the fundraising dinner for the Bendigo Islamic Community Centre • Attended and laid wreath at the Axedale ANZAC Day Service • Attended and laid wreath at the Bendigo ANZAC Day Service • Welcomed attendees to the Australian Pilots Association Welcome Cocktail Function • Attended the Regional Cities Victoria meeting • Attended the Victorian Local Governance Association Annual Women’s Event at Parliament House. • Guest speaker at the Loddon Murray Leadership Program Day • Spoke at the Royal Freemasons Bendigo Aged Care Facility Official Opening • Chaired the Farming Advisory Committee meeting • Attended the celebration event for the start of the National Disability Insurance Scheme with the Hon. Thank you to the Deputy Mayor and those Councillors who represented me at events I was unable to attend. .

    For VFBV District Councils This list shows responses from Victorian State MPs to VFBV’s 11 June letter on the issue of presumptive legislation – the firefighters’ cancer law that would simplify the path to cancer compensation for Victorian volunteer and career firefighters. District Councils are encouraged to use this list as part of their planning to ensure that volunteers contact all State MPs in their area and seek their support on this important issue. See the VFBV website for more information on the issue, including a copy of our ‘Notes for MPs’ that volunteers can present to MPs. As at 22 August 2013; There has been strong support from the Greens, who have presented draft legislation to State Parliament, and in-principle support from Labor The Coalition Government has not committed to supporting presumptive legislation. VFBV is committed to working with all Victorian MPs to secure all-party support for fairer and simpler access to cancer compensation for Victorian volunteer and career firefighters and a part of that is having volunteers talk to their local MPs. This is a submission on behalf of the Parliament’s House Committee. The House Committee is a cross-party committee established under the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003. Prior to the introduction of the Victorian Independent Remuneration Tribunal and Improving Parliamentary Standards Act 2019, the House Committee had a role in the development and adoption of guidelines (then known as the Members Guide) for the expenditure of Members’ electorate office and communications budgets. Following discussions of the House Committee, we submit the following issues, and the positions adopted by the committee on each issue, for your consideration. To be clear from the outset, this submission does not seek to increase Members’ budgets but rather suggests ways that existing resources can be used more effectively. Definition of ‘public duties’ You will recall that in a submission to the Tribunal dated 6 December 2019, the Speaker raised the matter of ensuring consistency between the Guidelines and the legislation, specifically as it related to the purpose of the Guidelines being to allow Members to communicate with their electorate in relation to the performance of their public duties. Whilst the Tribunal changed the Guidelines, feedback from Members and the Department of Parliamentary Services (in carrying out the duties of the Relevant Officer) is that the extent of the term ‘public duties’ should be clarified in the Guidelines.

    2/22/2021 Parliament of Victoria Question: 93 CONSTITUENCY QUESTION — Mr Smith (Warrandyte) to ask the Minister for Housing, Disability and Ageing for the Minister for Youth Affairs — I wish to raise an important matter for the Minister for Youth Affairs regarding support for local cubs and scouts in my electorate. The former coalition government was a great supporter of Victoria's scouts and guides. With a $5 million investment, dozens of scout and guide halls were refurbished and renovated and support was given to train leaders and to encourage participation from young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The coalition shares many of the same values as the scouts and guides: values such as respect, community service and the recognition of individual effort. In order to continue to support these outstanding young Victorians, specifically those in my electorate, I ask the minister whether she will commit funding to the 1st Warrandyte/Park Orchards scouts. The Stiggants Reserve scout hall in Warrandyte was promised $60 000 by the coalition government, and it is unfathomable that the Andrews Labor government would slash this funding and abandon these future young leaders. I ask: will the minister support these young Victorians with funding? Answer: I am informed that: As you would be aware, the Scouts and Guides Facilities Grants Program delivered through Scouts Victoria and Girl Guides Victoria is a program that began under the former Brumby Labour Government. As the previous Minister for Youth Affairs, you should also be aware, local scout and girl guide groups applied for this funding through Scouts Victoria and Girl Guides Victoria and applications were assessed against a range of criteria including hall condition, local scout group involvement, consultation with other local bodies, community access to the facility, youth participation in the local area and ongoing viability of the facility.
