As a result of the COVID-19 global pandemic, many countries have implemented restrictions on entry and exit, visa and work permit issuance, closed borders, tightened quarantine rules and taken other measures in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19. These restrictions may affect international business travel and assignment plans. Some countries have also introduced immigration concessions to facilitate applications; for example, moving to online applications, accepting soft copies of documents, granting automatic extension approval and more. However, these concessions must be reviewed country by country as the requirement to make a notification or other applications is often still in place. CIBTvisas and Newland Chase are here to help you. This comprehensive guide gathers together the knowledge and data we have on entry restrictions, immigration restrictions (office closures, visa suspensions, etc.) and immigration concessions, worldwide. We also invite you to attend or to download and listen to our webinars, which address changes both globally, regionally and country by country. We are glad to offer you follow up white papers, discussion guides and FAQ sheets to support you with the conversations you need to have with your colleagues, employees and clients. We can do more, too. Contact us today for a free 30-minute consultation on your specific needs and requirements. We are glad to help. Disclaimer We have aggregated information about some immigration-related restrictions imposed by some countries in response to this situation. • Immigration Situation Overview
COVID-19 Pandemic – Immigration Situation Overview This is a summary of the confirmed immigration restrictions and/or concessions that global jurisdictions are currently imposing in an effort to contain the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). It includes: (1) the operational status of government authorities; (2) travel restrictions; (3) entry, quarantine, and health requirements; and (4) government concessions. Where a jurisdiction is not listed, Fragomen cannot reliably confirm it is currently imposing restrictions or concessions of this type. The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is a rapidly changing event; this summary is for reference only. It does not attempt to cover other developments that may be relevant to travelers, such as airline route cancellations, the closing of consular posts, or national travel advisories. For the latest on global confirmed coronavirus disease cases, review the World Health Organization’s latest situation report here. Individuals considering travel should consult their country’s consular posts and seek case-specific advice from their travel and /or immigration providers. Employers whose staff have moved to remote work arrangements may need to complete additional labor law requirements, such as employment contract amendment. • The Role of Iranian Dual Nationals in Sanctions Evasion
Congressional Testimony The Role of Iranian Dual Nationals in Sanctions Evasion Dr. Emanuele Ottolenghi Senior Fellow Center on Sanctions and Illicit Finance Foundation for Defense of Democracies Hearing before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on National Security and Subcommittee on Government Operations Washington, DC February 10, 2016 1800 M Street NW ● Suite 800, South Tower ● Washington, DC 20036 Emanuele Ottolenghi February 10, 2016 INTRODUCTION Chairmen DeSantis and Meadows, ranking members Lynch and Connolly, members of the committee, on behalf of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and its Center on Sanctions and Illicit Finance, I thank you for the opportunity to testify. Entry into the United States under the Visa Waiver Program is a privilege, not a right, bestowed on foreign nationals wishing to visit from a select group of countries. Those countries earned this privilege based on specific criteria, and may lose it if they fail to meet those conditions – as has happened to Argentina and Uruguay in the past. Today we are here to discuss not whether Congress unreasonably deprived countries of this privilege, but whether it is reasonable to deny it to a select group of visitors from Visa Waiver countries on the basis that they are dual nationals of the Islamic Republic of Iran. I contend that the exception for dual nationals of Iran and Visa Waiver countries is, on balance, a sound and not unduly burdensome measure. Dual nationals may still come to the United States, but now need to apply in person for a visa. This measure should not be undermined for fear that Iran may view it as a violation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear agreement or because of fears of retaliatory measures from Visa Waiver countries.
