Percussive brilliance of Peter Donoho e’s pianism , he delivered a searing Rachmaninov Rhapsody – his closing variations bristled with energy, but the slow episode sang with pure po etry” David Kettle, The Scotsman “Donohoe can play dolce and cantabile with the best when required but his ability to reveal the macabre , disturbing and sinister aspects of the work impressed me most .” Norman Stinchcombe, Birmingham Post “One of our greatest home grown performers” Petroc Trelawny, BBC Radio 3 “The pianist’s gregariously wide repertoire and straightforward flair find their best home in Bartók’s 1926 Sonata.” Geoff Brown, The Times “All three elements ( orchestra, soloist, conductor ) came together in a stupendous performance of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 3, with Donohoe delivering a fully Ointeg rated, listening interpretation … and an expressively powerful display of virtuosity .” “It positively erupted with ebullience .” Birmingha m Post “An unforgettable evening . Donohoe’s playing remains as youthful, energised, courageous and athletically remarkable as ever ... From the opening group of late Brahms miniatures it was obvious that Donohoe intended to present the music with purity, simplicity, honesty, and above all, directness. There is no room for affected rubatos, unnatural dynamics nor controversial voicing in his playing. These attributes were also evident in the Beethoven and Prokofiev sonatas, whilst in the Stravinsky his ‘o rchestration’ of each section of the work turned the school’s resident Steinway into a wide range of different groups of instruments. Above all Donohoe’s strong sense of rhythm is evident in everything he plays …His remarkable stage presence and magnetism as a performer stems from an organic connection with the music he plays. His concentration and devotion to each work played was captivating…” Murray McLachlan, Head of Keyboard at Chetham’s School of Music [email protected] www.ikonarts.com t: +44 (0) 20 7354 9199 Peter Donohoe Piano * * * * * Rating , Birmingham Post.net RECITAL PROGRAMMES Programme 1 SCHUMANN, R: Theme and Variations on the name 'Abegg' Op. 1 SCHUBERT: 4 Impromptus Op 142 Interval BRAHMS: Drei Klavierstucke, Op 117 LISZT: Sonata in B minor Programme 2 SCRIABIN: Piano Sonata No. 7, Op. 64 RAVEL: Miroirs Interval RACHMANINOV: 13 Preludes, Op 32 OPUS 1 programme TCHAIKOVSKY Scherzo à la Russe, Op. 1, No. 1 TCHAIKOVSKY Intermezzo in E flat minor, Op. 1, No. 2 PROKOFIEV Sonata No. 1 in F minor, Op. 1 BARTOK Rhapsody, Op. 1 Interval BERG Sonata, Op. 1 SCHUMANN Theme and Variations on the name 'Abegg' Op. 1 BRAHMS Sonata No. 1 in C major, Op. 1 Liszt and the French Impressionists programme LISZT Les Jeux d'Eau a la Villa d'Este RAVEL Miroirs (Complete) Interval LISZT La Suisse (Année de pèlerinage book 1) MESSIAEN Cantéyodjayâ [email protected] www.ikonarts.com t: +44 (0) 20 7354 9199 Peter Donohoe Piano “Hats off, a genius…the master interpreter” , Herald Scotland CONCERTO REPERTOIRE Alwyn, William Piano Concerto’s No.1 & 2 Janá ček, Leoš Capriccio for Piano Left Hand and Chamber Bach, J.S.
