  • Notes on North Campus Walkabout Circulated to University of Toronto Area Liaison Committee, June 17, 2017
Notes on North Campus walkabout Circulated to University of Toronto Area Liaison Committee, June 17, 2017 Yesterday, members of the Liaison Committee and representatives of the University, its planners, City Planning and Heritage as well as the councillor’s office toured potential development sites on the north end of campus from Queen’s Park to Spadina. Overall, we do not support the approval of discretionary heights. We believe the new plan should be specific. We were astonished at the number of sites identified for tower infill. We are not comfortable with defining the terms for development of virtually every space, vacant or not, and are concerned by the selection of comparables only from those sites which are already more highly developed: the University Women’s Club is referenced to developments on Bloor, not its sister mansions on St. George, and the setback on the ROM using the smaller setback on the east side of the street. Greening: The preservation and enhanced protection of Philosopher’s Walk is important to the community. In the past, proposals encroaching on the walk at the Varsity Arena site and at the Conservatory and ROM have been turned back. Flanking buildings need not create a sense of rear door. Animation is not an objective. Incursion into the walk by entranceways to potential new buildings must be discouraged both because it would destroy the ambience of the walk and stress the trees. It is not the front address, rather it is a corridor that runs between building sides. The walkways into the new Law Building are a significant and deleterious imposition on Philosopher’s Walk on the south.

CORPORATE Gaining a competitive edge: Sherrard Kuzz LLP values student-athlete success 21 JAN 2020, 02:00 PM Damjan Peric arlier this month, the Top 8 Academic All-Canadians were announced for the 2018-19 season, honouring the top male and female of each U SPORTS conference who maintained an academic average of 80 per E cent or higher, while playing one or more varsity sports. Canadian law rm Sherrard Kuzz LLP continues as the ocial supporter of the student-athletes selected to the Top 8, by supporting travel, accommodations, and hospitality leading up to the Governor General’s Academic All- Canadian Commendation on January 22 at Rideau Hall in Ottawa. Sport provides an opportunity to succeed beyond one’s expectation, to experience failure and to learn how to get back up and try again. Sherrard For Sherrard Kuzz LLP, supporting the Academic All-Canadians is a long term investment. The employment and labour law rm has a track record of hiring former student-athletes and Academic All-Canadians, including its founding partner, Michael Sherrard. Sherrard, a former member of and coach of the University of New Brunswick Reds varsity basketball program, recognizes how important sport can be. “Sport provides an opportunity to succeed beyond one’s expectation, to experience failure and to learn how to get back up and try again,” Sherrard explains. “As well, playing team sports provides numerous opportunities to experience the team being more than the sum of its parts. All of these lessons are transferable to everyday life.” Throughout their university careers, student-athletes learn many lessons that gives them an edge in their professional lives.

The Gryphons’ Lair Issue 34 - November 2019 What Happened in October? Game 7 vs. Queen’s The Guelph Gryphons travelled to Kingston, Ontario to take on the Queen’s Gaels in a Thursday night, pre-Thanksgiving match-up. The entire game was very back and forth throughout, with the Gryphons tying up the game late in the fourth quarter, bringing us to overtime. With a defensive stop on Queen’s overtime drive, Guelph was able to respond and get the ball to the 26-yard line, setting up Kicker, Eric Stranz, to kick the winning field goal. Our Offensive Player of the Game was Running Back, Juwan Jeffrey. Our Defensive Player of the Game was Defensive End/Linebacker, AJ Allen. Lastly, our Special Teams Player of the Game was second-year Kicker, Eric Stranz, who has been 13-of-15 on field goals at this point in the season. To read more on our Players of the Game, please click here. To read more on this game, please click here. Thanksgiving Weekend After a Thursday night win in Kingston, the team had the Thanksgiving weekend off to spend time with family and friends. As many members of our team come from British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan, the trek home was just not doable. That’s when Gryphon Football’s POP Group leader, Bruna Ferraro, stepped in to host the boys at a Thanksgiving dinner and made them feel at home during the long weekend. Thank you, Bruna and the Ferraro's for hosting our boys. Game 8 vs. U of T On Saturday, October 19th, the Guelph Gryphons took on the Toronto Varsity Blues in the last regular season game of the year.
