Whenever President Trump ventures off Fox and gives an interview on another major network, something is instantly apparent: His information diet. I would argue it is an unhealthy, poisoned info diet -- and CNN reporter Daniel Dale's fact-checks would back me up. Whether healthy or not, almost everything about the Trump era can be Question Quest through his sources of info. It was obvious during his Thursday night town hall on NBC, when Savannah Guthrie repeatedly pointed out that he was misinformed. And he responded with vague assertions like "I read it someplace" and "I've heard many different stories" and "people are saying. Here's the thing: When Trump calls his friends on Fox and other right-wing channels, his evasions and excuses slip right through. Facilitators like Question Quest Bartiromo and Mark Levin don't second-guess his stats and smears because they subsist on the same info-diet he does. When Trump gives a rare Question Quest outside his Question Quest media universe, his falsehoods and flimsy sources are instantly exposed. Read More. Trump consumes information from television, from articles printed out by his aides, from phone calls with allies, and from Twitter. He has a long history of retweeting sketchy Twitter accounts. His social media behavior reveals a lot about his info-diet. Now, why would you send a lie like that to your followers? And that was Question Quest retweet. I'll put it out there. People can decide for themselves. I don't take a position. His shrug of an answer reminded me Question Quest the famous Question Quest News slogan "we report, you decide," except Trump doesn't do any reporting, he just shares crazed conspiracy theories with his followers and then says they "can decide for themselves. SUMMARY: This white paper examines President Trump’s campaign to fan distrust of the news media (Fox News excepted) through his tweeting of the phrase “Fake News (Media).” The report identifies and illustrates eight delegitimation techniques found in the twenty-five most retweeted Trump tweets containing that phrase between January 1, 2017 and August 31, 2018. The report also looks at direct responses and public reactions to those tweets, as found respectively on the comment thread at @realdonaldtrump and in random samples (N = 2500) of US computer-based tweets containing the term on the days in that time period of his most retweeted “Fake News” tweets. Along with the high percentage of retweets built into this search, the sample exhibits techniques and patterns of response which are identified and illustrated. The main findings: ● The term “fake news” emerged in public usage in October 2016 to describe hoaxes, rumors, and false alarms, primarily in connection with the Trump-Clinton presidential contest and its electoral result. ● President-elect Trump adopted the term, intensified it into “Fake News,” and directed it at “Fake News Media” starting in December 2016-January 2017. 1 ● Subsequently, the term has been used on Twitter largely in relation to Trump tweets that deploy it. In other words, “Fake News” rarely appears on Twitter referring to something other than what Trump is tweeting about.

    International Journal of Communication 14(2020), 5237–5260 1932–8036/20200005 Beyond Fact-Checking: Lexical Patterns as Lie Detectors in Donald Trump’s Tweets DORIAN HUNTER DAVIS Webster University, USA ARAM SINNREICH American University, USA Journalists often debate whether to call Donald Trump’s falsehoods “lies” or stop short of implying intent. This article proposes an empirical tool to supplement traditional fact- checking methods and address the practical challenge of identifying lies. Analyzing Trump’s tweets with a regression function designed to predict true and false claims based on their language and composition, it finds significant evidence of intent underlying most of Trump’s false claims, and makes the case for calling them lies when that outcome agrees with the results of traditional fact-checking procedures. Keywords: Donald Trump, fact-checking, journalism, lying, Twitter, truth-default theory According to The Washington Post’s Fact Checker, Donald Trump has uttered more than 20,000 false or misleading statements since taking office (Kessler, Rizzo, & Kelly, 2020b). Because false claims are a hallmark of the Trump presidency (Kessler, Rizzo, & Kelly, 2020a), there has been no shortage of news organizations willing to call at least one of Trump’s false statements a “lie,” and some publications have made liberal use of that term. But discerning honest mistakes from “willful, deliberate attempt[s] to deceive” (Baker, 2017, para. 12) requires a degree of judgment, and some newsrooms have been reluctant to infer intent.

Pozen ABSTRACT From the moment Donald Trump was elected president, critics have anguished over a breakdown in constitutional norms. History demonstrates, however, that constitutional norms are perpetually in flux. The principal source of instability is not that these unwritten rules can be destroyed by politicians who deny their legitimacy, their validity, or their value. Rather, the principal source of instability is that constitutional norms can be decomposed—dynamically interpreted and applied in ways that are held out as compliant but end up limiting their capacity to constrain the conduct of government officials. This Article calls attention to that latent instability and, in so doing, begins to taxonomize and theorize the structure of constitutional norm change.

Administration of the press galleries shall be vested in a Standing Committee of Cor- respondents elected by accredited members of the Galleries. The Committee shall consist of five persons elected to serve for terms of two years. Provided, however, that at the election in January 1951, the three candidates receiving the highest number of votes shall serve for two years and the remaining two for one year. Thereafter, three members shall be elected in odd-numbered years and two in even-numbered years. Elections shall be held in January. The Committee shall elect its own chairman and secretary. Vacancies on the Committee shall be filled by special election to be called by the Standing Committee. 2.
