Plants were monitored for five consecutive years in six study plots in Oulanka, northern Finland. Sex ratio, spatial distribution of sexes, flowering frequency, number of floral shoots and the number and weight of inflorescences were recorded. In addition, intensity of mycorrhizal fungi in the roots was assessed. Both sexes flowered each year with a similar frequency, but the overall genet sex ratio was strongly female-biased. The bivariate Ripley’s analysis of the sex distribution showed that within most plots sexes were randomly distributed except for one plot. Sexual dimorphism was expressed as larger floral and inflorescence production and heavier inflorescences in males. In addition, the roots of both sexes were colonised to a similar extent by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. The female sex-biased flowering ratios reported are not consistent among years and cannot be explained in terms of spatial segregation of the sexes or sex lability.

  • Literature Cited
Literature Cited Robert W. Kiger, Editor This is a consolidated list of all works cited in volumes 19, 20, and 21, whether as selected references, in text, or in nomenclatural contexts. In citations of articles, both here and in the taxonomic treatments, and also in nomenclatural citations, the titles of serials are rendered in the forms recommended in G. D. R. Bridson and E. R. Smith (1991). When those forms are abbre- viated, as most are, cross references to the corresponding full serial titles are interpolated here alphabetically by abbreviated form. In nomenclatural citations (only), book titles are rendered in the abbreviated forms recommended in F. A. Stafleu and R. S. Cowan (1976–1988) and F. A. Stafleu and E. A. Mennega (1992+). Here, those abbreviated forms are indicated parenthetically following the full citations of the corresponding works, and cross references to the full citations are interpolated in the list alphabetically by abbreviated form. Two or more works published in the same year by the same author or group of coauthors will be distinguished uniquely and consistently throughout all volumes of Flora of North America by lower-case letters (b, c, d, ...) suffixed to the date for the second and subsequent works in the set. The suffixes are assigned in order of editorial encounter and do not reflect chronological sequence of publication. The first work by any particular author or group from any given year carries the implicit date suffix “a”; thus, the sequence of explicit suffixes begins with “b”. Works missing from any suffixed sequence here are ones cited elsewhere in the Flora that are not pertinent in these volumes.

In the beginning of homeopathy’s introduction, he led a fervor of pioneering activity and introduced many substances as homeopathic remedies. These were carefully identified and classified as best they could be by the standards of the time, as Hahnemann was a stickler for careful methodologies. Many of his students and followers, such as Hering and Kent, went on to prolifically introduce remedies and clinical concepts in order to advance homeopathy. But as an allopathic “scientific method” took over medicine at the beginning of the 20th century, homeopathy’s growth and momentum lagged. Relative to the time that passed and the developments in science and medicine, minimal evolution and progress in the homeopathic profession was made. There were many reasons for this, notwithstanding the attack on homeopathy from without by allopaths claiming their territory and from within homeopathy where a anachronistic conservative even dogmatically religious ethic took over. Few new homeopathic remedies or techniques were introduced into homeopathy and old systems of classification were relied upon to define and relate what small number of remedies had already been introduced and used.

Gaertner (Compositae) Ksenia V. Dudova Ksenia V. Dudova ABSTRACT e-mail: [email protected] Determination the sex of the plant shoots without using features of a separate ca pi tulum is important in population-based studies. I tested hypothesis that Anten Department of Geobotany, Faculty of naria dioica has statistically significant differences in morphological traits between Biology, Lomonosov Moscow State Uni- female and male shoots. Eight morphological features and 1907 shoots from the versity, Moscow, Russia three geographically separated regions were studied. Reliable difference was found in height of generative shoots, rosette diameter and number of cauline leaves. However, the traits studied had significant overlap within individual populations and did not demonstrate significant differencces within a region. Therefore, none Manuscript received: 22.01.2016 of the traits presented can be used to determine the sex of an individual. Для исследования по- лового ди морфизма выбрано восемь признаков. Изучено 1907 побегов из трех гео гра фически удаленных регионов.
