The Casino de Monte-Carlo is owned and operated by the Société des bains de mer de Monaco, a public company in which the Monaco government and the ruling family have a majority interest. The company also owns the principal hotels, sports clubs, foodservice establishments, and nightclubs throughout Monaco. The idea of opening a gambling casino in Monaco belongs to Princess Caroline, a shrewd, business-minded spouse of Prince Florestan I. Revenues from the proposed venture were supposed to save the House of Grimaldi from bankruptcy. The ruling family's persistent financial problems became especially acute after the loss of tax revenue from two breakaway towns, Menton and Roquebrune, which declared independence from Monaco in 1848 and refused to pay taxes on olive oil and fruit imposed by the Grimaldis.

    Monaco Grand Prix Culture by George Walther “Watching People Watching People Watching People Driving Cars” I’m here at the Monaco Grand Prix ... but not to watch people driving cars. I’m watching the people who are watching the other people who are watching the people who are driving the cars. It’s all in the numbers. The Monaco Grand Prix’s maximum seating plus standing room is 37,000, but the worldwide TV audience is over a billion. Of those who are actually at the circuit in Monaco, a minute few people are actually driving Grand Prix cars; more are watching them drive cars; and many, many more are watching the people who are watching the people who drive Grand Prix cars. And I’m watching them. It’s all about which circle you’re in. Actual Grand Prix drivers are demigods, occupying the first circle. It’s the most exclusive by far, and comes with a host of special privileges and recognitions. Credit Suisse hosts a “Grand Prix Drivers Club” tent out by the Yacht Club de Monaco and requires that you be a certified demigod to enter. Grand Prix drivers are prime prospects for private banking; many are already valued depositors holding Swiss bank accounts. It’s a big money sport. Page 1 The second circle outside the drivers consists of the people who are true race enthusiasts. They can glance at any old race car from twenty or thirty years ago and tell you how it placed in that year’s Grand Prix. The most elite of this circle, closest to the demigods, actually own their own classic race cars.

I believe it is the most comprehensive and accurate you will find anywhere. However, although I have tried to make sure the information presented here is as correct and accurate as possible, some reservation is always necessary. Research is continuously progressing and may lead to new findings. Vitesse! pdf details over 700 racing circuits in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Austria, and also contains notes on Luxembourg and Switzerland. The American Road Courses pdf-documents lists nearly 160 road courses of past and present in the United States and Canada. These files are the most comprehensive and accurate sources for racing circuits in said countries. My website also lists nearly 5000 dates of motorcycle road races in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg and Switzerland, allowing you to see exactly when many of the motorcycle circuits listed in the Rennen!     Information Systems Education Journal (ISEDJ) 16 (2) ISSN: 1545-679X April 2018 __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Teaching Case Formula One – a database project from start to finish Anthony Serapiglia [email protected] CIS Department St. Vincent College Latrobe, PA 15650 Abstract The following is an applied database scenario based on a single season in the FIA Formula One (F1) World Championship of auto racing. This scenario builds database understanding and skills through data modeling, data acquisition, creation of a database schema through a database management system, query construction, and report creation. In the United States, Formula One falls squarely in the realm of “niche” sports, yet is regarded as one of the largest and most popular sports world wide. Various agencies have measured television viewership of F1 to be the largest for a seasonal sporting league in the world and only surpassed by quadrennial events such as the World Cup of Soccer and the Olympic Games. This dynamic allows for a great opportunity for undergraduate students. While most students will not be familiar with F1, they will have a basic understanding of racing in general. Also, while not in the consciousness of most Americans, the amount of sources of data for F1 abound worldwide. This creates a fertile environment abundant of data and the opportunity for easy entry to understanding of the environment by the novice. Utilizing this scenario will require that students learn about the world that the data is describing, enriching the experience with the personalities and energy of a world class sporting environment. The environment also provides multiple points of focus for modularization, but taken as a whole, allows for a full database creation experience, from “start” to “finish” - from modeling to reporting with all aspects in between.
