AFAD reported that during the last 24 hrs, i.e., 17-18 July 2013, 555 Syrians were admitted and registered in the camps while 568 Syrians voluntarily returned to Syria. • Local officials informed UNHCR that the police have enumerated about 4,600 Syrians in Iskenderun town of Hatay province. The authorities informed UNHCR Field Team that after the enumeration by the police, a house visit is conducted by the local police for verification. No document is issued to the person/family however after the verification, the person/family is provided with financial assistance from the Office of the Sub-Governor. • While the registration of the non-camp Syrians is ongoing in Sanliurfa city by AFAD, in Akcakale town of Sanliurfa province, local officials informed that 2,309 families (6,282 persons) have been registered in the urban area by AFAD. Reportedly the registered persons are issued ID cards and their finger prints are taken. • A case of a 12 yeas old from Akcakale Camp with retinoblastoma who approached the UNHCR team for assistance was resolved when the Camp Manager managed to find a private donation to cover the cost of an eye prosthesis following treatment of his cancer and ultimate removal of the eye. The prosthesis was not covered by AFAD as it was not a life saving measure, purely aesthetic. Legend • Camp officials in Osmaniye informed UNHCR Field Team that a local NGO based in Istanbul, which provided 300 Military Defectors food packages to the Syrian urban population in Osmaniye will be providing 4 prefabs to the camp. Reportedly the prefabs will be used for education purposes of which two will be allocated as a library and 2 as classrooms .
