NATIONALLY RANKED FIRST-YEAR HEAD COACHES IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST San Diego State is ranked No. 19 in the most recent Associated Press Top 25 Poll and No. The Mountain West has welcomed 25 new head coaches over the last 17 seasons. Former 24 in the Amway Coaches Poll, both announced on Sunday, Sept. 25. Prior to last week, BYU head coach Gary Crowton and current Boise State head coach Bryan Harsin have the Aztecs hadn’t been ranked in the AP poll since Nov. 7, 1995 when they were No. 25. posted the most victories and highest win percentage among the group with 12 victories and an .857 win percentage in their inaugural years in 2001 and 2014, respectively. Boise State enters the fifth week of the season ranked 24th in the AP Poll Harsin became the first to conclude his inaugural season by winning the Mountain West and receiving 126 votes in the Amway Coaches Poll. Championship Game, the first of two outright MW Championships in program history. Harsin is the only alumnus to lead the Broncos as head coach in the history of Boise State. This is the first time since Nov. 23, 2014 that at least two Mountain West institutions are Harsin is one of three first-year coaches to win at least 10 games in their inaugural season, ranked nationally. That season, Colorado State was ranked 21st in both polls, while Boise joining Crowton (12 wins, 2001) and Urban Meyer (10 wins, 2003). State was ranked 25th in each polly. MOUNTAIN WEST IN THE POSTSEASON CONSISTENT KICKING The Mountain West sent a record eight teams into postseason bowl games in 2015, Air Force junior kicker Luke Strebel has made 15 consecutive field goals, which leads the posting a 4-4 record (.500). Overall, the Mountain West has earned 77 bowl bids since nation among active FBS kickers. Strebel missed his first field goal attempt in 2015 but 1999 and holds a 42-35 (.546) all-time record. The league has also posted an overall then rattled off 10 straight to end the year. To open 2016, he is 5-for-5. postseason mark of at least .500 in nine of the last 12 seasons.
