New field work in outcrops of the Ukhta Region (Southern Timan) together with the re-exanimation of former collections allows a detailed revision of the ammonoid zonation in one of the classical Frasnian regions of Russia. There is a total of 47 species, 18 of which are new or recorded for the first time from the region. The latter applies to representatives of Linguatornoceras, Phoenixites, Aulatornoceras s.str. and Acantho- clymenia. New taxa are Chutoceras manticoides n.gen. n.sp. and Linguatornoceras yudinae n.sp. In the Ust’yarega Formation regional Hoeninghausia nalivkini, Timanites keyserlingi and Komioceras stuckenber- gi Zones can be recognized which correlate with the international Frasnian divisions UD I-B/C.

  • The Eastern Amessoui Syncline – a Hotspot for Silurian to Carboniferous Cephalopod Research
Zurich Open Repository and Archive University of Zurich Main Library Strickhofstrasse 39 CH-8057 Zurich www.zora.uzh.ch Year: 2018 The eastern Amessoui Syncline – a hotspot for Silurian to Carboniferous cephalopod research Klug, Christian ; Pohle, Alexander Abstract: Introduction : The Moroccan eastern Anti-Atlas comprises two large regions with vast out- crops of Palaeozoic rocks, the Maïder and Tafilalt (HOLLARD 1967, 1970, 1974), which have become world-reknown for Palaeozoic cephalopods, trilobites, and other groups (e.g. TERMIER TERMIER 1950; MASSA 1965). Palaeogeographically, these regions correspond to the Maïder and Tafilalt Basins, which are divided by the south-north running Tafilalt Platform (WENDT et al. 1984; WENDT 1985, 1988; BAIDDER et al. 2016). This platform was submerged throughout the Silurian to Early Carbonif- erous and is characterized by often condensed, highly fossiliferous sedimentary sequences. Especially the Devonian succession (Fig. 1) crops out in a series of east-west oriented synclines. The largest of which was dubbed Amessoui Syncline after the mountain Jebel Amessoui (Fig. 2). At the western end of this syncline, the Devonian succession is much thicker than in the east because it was situated on the slope toward the Maïder Basin. In the eastern half of the syncline, the Middle to Late Devonian succession is much reduced in thickness because of the position on the Tafilalt Platform. The localities El Atrous, Filon 12, Jebel Ouaoufilal, Takkat Ou El Heyene, and El Khraouia are all situated on theformer platform and accordingly are rich in pelagic fossil communities, especially cephalopods. In many layers, cephalopods occur in nearly rock-forming numbers, which can be considered as Konzentratlagerstätte sensu SEILACHER (1970, 1990).

Received 19 December 2005, accepted 10 March, 2006 Published online 17 July 2006 With 7 figures Key words: Ammonoidea, biostratigraphy, Three Forks Shale, Late Devonian, Montana. Abstract The ammonoid fauna from the Late Devonian Three Forks Shale of Montana is revised. Six taxa were recognised, which belong to the genera Tornoceras, Pernoceras, Raymondiceras, Platyclymenia, Pleuroclymenia, and Carinoclymenia. The ammo- noid assemblage suggests a stratigraphic position within the middle Famennian, most probably the Platyclymenia annulata Zone. The ammonoids display extreme septal crowding in intermediate as well as adult growth stages, which can be regarded as evidence for instable palaeoecological conditions during lifetime of the animals. Schlu¨ sselwo¨ rter: Ammonoidea, Biostratigraphie, Three Forks Shale, Oberdevon, Montana. # 2006 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.

  • Succession of the Famennian Ammonoid Faunas in Poland
304 JERZY DZIK Fig. 223. Stratigraphic distribution of species of the Cyrtoclymeniidae, Hexaclymeniidae, Glatziellidae, and Wocklumeriidae in the Polish Famennian. Position of samples not included in Figs. 2 and 3 on the geochronological scale is hypothetical. SUCCESSION OF THE FAMENNIAN AMMONOID FAUNAS IN POLAND The fossil record of the ammonoid faunal dynamics is much more complete in the Famennian of the Holy Cross Mountains than in the Frasnian of the same area (Dzik 2002). Still, it remains highly punctuated and in− complete. Even in the most fossiliferous localities (Jabłonna, Łagów), cephalopod conchs occur only in few ho− rizons. Their stratigraphic relationship is usually hard to determine because the strata were accessible to exploi− tation for a limited time and most of the material collected by myself is derived from the scree of exposures no longer accesible. Even in cases of the bed−by−bed collecting by previous authors (Sobolew 1912; Czarnocki 1989), the original descriptions and most of the specimens were lost as a result of historical turbulencies in this part of Europe. The review of the evolution of ammonoid faunas presented below has to be thus taken with cau− tion, as based on limited evidence and tentative stratigraphic attribution of many findings. Biogeographic affinities. — Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the Holy Cross Mountains Famennian ammonoid assemblages is their rather remote similarity to those from the Rhenish Slate Mountains in Ger− many. Polish assemblages are generally more diverse, as acutely shown by comparison of the species con− tents of the Platyclymenia annulata Zone fossil assemblages from Ostrówka (Czarnocki 1989) with the clas− sic Kattensiepen, quantitatively studied by Korn (2002), or Enkenberg (Korn 2004a).

Polon., 49 (1), 1-23. Warszawa. Devonian conodonts and ammonoids occurring in association in the Ouidane Chebbi section of the eastern Tafilalt (Anti-Atlas, Morocco) are described and analysed in terms of stratigraphy. The excel- lently exposed sequence spans the entire Devonian; it includes open-marine carbonates and shales deposited outside the tropical realm. Except for its Middle Devonian part, the Ouidane Chebbi section is not condensed. Although the sequence was only sampled in a preliminary fashion, most of it litho- logical units have been dated with some precision. The study is an attempt to enhance the precision in the correlation between the Devonian conodont and ammonoid sequences. Graphic correlation method was used for estimating the precise position of the zonal and stage boundaries for the Middle and Upper Devonian intervals. The stratigraphy of the Lower Devonian at Ouidane Chebbi is still poorly defined. The Eifelian/Givetian boundary is well constrained, especially by both conodonts and ammonoids. It occurs within the uppermost part of the Kaãak Event-Level, a characteristic shale horizon that begins in the ensensis Zone and ranges into the hemiansatus Zone.

Berliner paläobiologische Abhandlungen 10 61-128 Berlin 2009-11-11 Upper Givetian ammonoids from Dar Kaoua (Tafilalt, SE Anti-Atlas, Morocco) Jürgen Bockwinkel 1, Ralph Thomas Becker 2 & Volker Ebbighausen 3 Abstract: The Upper Givetian at Dar Kaoua (Tafilalt, SE Anti-Atlas, Morocco) yielded regionally the best preserved ammonoid fauna from the widespread Lower Marker Bed (disparilis conodont zone) of the pelagic Tafilalt Platform. It is currently the richest ammonoid assemblage of the Synpharciceras clavilobum Zone (MD III-C) on a global scale and dominated by members of the Pharciceratidae and Taouzitidae (Agoniatitida). The Tornoceratidae (Goniatitida) are represented by few Epitornoceras mithracoides Frech, 1888. Timanites meridionalis Petter, 1959 is an important index species of the Lower Marker Bed and the type species of the oxyconic Darkaoceras n. gen. (Taouzitidae) with two outer U-lobes. Keuppites singulus n. gen. n. sp., named in honor of the renown ammonoid specialist H. Keupp, is a very rare related form with additional umbilical lobes. The Pharciceratidae are divided into evolute to subinvolute Pharciceratinae and the involute Synpharciceratinae. Pharciceras Hyatt, 1884, which has four umbilical lobes and a biphasic post-embryonal conch ontogeny, is represented by Ph. tridens (Sandberger & Sandberger, 1850), Ph. evolvens n. sp., Ph. lateseptatum (Frech, 1902), Ph. aff. lateseptatum, Ph. pargai Montesinos & Henn, 1986 (with three morphotypes), Ph. darkaouense n. sp., and Ph. kayseri Wedekind, 1918. Subevolute, discoidal pharciceratids with three internal and two or three external umbilical lobes fall in Extropharciceras n. gen., with the type-species Ex. conex n. sp., and also with Ex. librum n. sp. and Ex. arenicum (Petter, 1959).
