PEACE AND SPORT INTERNATIONAL FORUM / HOST CITY PROPOSAL 5 THE PEACE AND SPORT AWARDS Created in 2008, the annual Peace and Sport Awards reward organizations and individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to peace, dialogue and social stability in the world through sport. From specific field programs to global initiatives, the winners have led projects that are symbolic of sport’s capacity to reconcile divided or opposed communities. They are an inspiration to other stakeholders for what sport can achieve on the global stage. THE JURY Winners of the Peace and Sport Awards are chosen by a jury of eminent, independent personalities, deeply invested in peace promotion or the consolidation of peace through sport. By living this amazing experience, our volunteers are also showing to the World that no matter where people are from they can be united around these two main values that we share : Peace and Sport. The International Forum is a human journey for these volunteers. From different generations and with different backgrounds, they learn to know each other and the experience they are living to- gether create exceptional memories for all of them. Peace and Sport is delighted to have about 40 volunteers by its side every year, as their diversi- ty and cultures make the organization stronger. Beyond the International Forum, our volunteers stand up for the organization by becoming Peace and Sport ambassadors in their countries and by spreading our words to sustain peace by using sport as a tool. For all these reasons Peace and Sport will keep looking for motivated volunteers that are inspired by its values. PEACE AND SPORT INTERNATIONAL FORUM / HOST CITY PROPOSAL 7 EXPANDING GLOBAL AMBITION As part of its goal to contribute to sustainable peace through sport on all five continents, Peace and Sport holds some editions of the International Forum outside Monaco. In 2012 Peace and Sport organized a Forum in Sochi, Russia prior to the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, and in 2013 a regional Forum took place in Dubai. The goal of bringing the Forum to new territories is to encourage a broader and more diverse participation and to reinforce international cooperation for sustainable peace. It also addresses the growing demand of cities interested in hosting the event. Peace and Sport is now inviting bids from candidate cities who would like to host the Peace and Sport International Forum every two years. Host Cities of the Peace and Sport International Forum make a tangible contribution to the global peace movement and gain significant benefits and opportunities: • A strengthened position as a key player for geopolitics and sport in a politically-neutral environment. • Reinforcement of a socially responsible image and association with a lasting legacy of programs using sport as a tool for peace. • The opportunity to welcome world leaders: heads of state, royal family members, government ministers, Nobel Peace laureates, IOC members and high-ranking UN officials. • The tangible benefits of a wide-ranging publicity campaign and media coverage. • The chance to showcase event organization capabilities and the attractions of the Host City. 8 Mr. Bouzou and the Nobel Peace Laureates 2015 from Tunisia with H.S.H. Suggested Cooperation Process International Development Officer [email protected] 10 HOSTING AGREEMENT SESSION 1 / MAINTENIR LA PAIX DANS UN MONDE EN MOUVEMENT I. EXCLUSIVE SET OF RIGHTS OF THE HOST CITY MARKETING RIGHTS: o Partnerships: the Host City, with the support of Peace and Sport, will propose a strategy for marketing and funding for the Peace and Sport International Forum. This strategy enables the Host City to generate funds that will be exclusively dedicated to supplementing the Host City’s expenses. The Marketing Rights defines all the financial incomes generated by the event sponsorship pro- grams and partners’ contributions. o Branding: Communication material (event guide, press releases, website, Forum report, banners etc.) will be co-branded (Host City and Peace and Sport). The Host City will benefit from high visibility during the event by displaying the composite logo on all signage and promotional material (stage, conference room, dining area etc.). COMMUNICATION AND PR RIGHTS: o Communication rights: Peace and Sport authorizes the Host City to use the following names “XXXX – Host City to the Peace and Sport International Forum 20YY” and the corresponding composite logo for all communication. A joint communication plan and press campaign will be developed to announce and promote the Peace and Sport International Forum in the Host City (interviews, press releases, photo calls etc.). o PR Rights: Peace and Sport will allocate a set of PR rights to the Host City. The Host City will be given high visibility throughout the conference. For example Host City representatives will participate as key speakers during all ceremonies and corporate hospitality will be provided. REGISTRATION FEES: All registration fees received from participants will go to the Host City. A strategy will be proposed to define registration fee pricing. This strategy will ensure a high-profile and diversified representation of delegates (government ministers, IOC members, NGO representatives etc.) whilst generating revenues that will be exclu- sively dedicated to covering the Host City’s costs. Prince Albert II of Monaco and supported by the Principality’s Government, Peace and Sport is an international, neutral and independent organization based in Monaco, which promotes peace using the power of sport. It was created in 2007 by Joël Bouzou, Olympic medallist and World Champion of Modern Pentathlon. Didier Drogba, Champion for Peace, became Vice-President in 2019. Peace and Sport promotes the building of peaceful, inclusive and equitable communities through the power of sport. The Organization raises awareness, brings together and develops partnerships between the worlds of peace (NGOs, UN Agencies, International Organizations, Academics), sport (Olympic Family, International Sport Federations, National Olympic Committees, Athletes) and politics. It aims to implement field programs and ensure their sustainability, maximizing the use of sport for development and peace and leading social transformation in every area of the world affected by poverty or social instability. Peace and Sport is founded on four key pillars: Mobilizing, Connecting, Demonstrating and Advocating. The organization takes concrete action to prove the federating, educational and social impact of sport through sport diplomacy initiatives and field programs with the support of our Champions for Peace club. Peace and Sport is committed to aligning its programs and activities with the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and promotes improved international coherence and collaboration in placing sport at the service of humanity, as a powerful enabler of sustainable development. This currently involves a wide range of initiatives, all contributing to the United Nations recommendations and international overarching standards-setting frameworks, aimed at achieving the 2030 Agenda through advocacy, data collection, capacity building, promotion and events.

    CHAPTER 25 Sports and Peace Building Alexander Ca´rdenas Professor and Consultant, Development Cooperation and Conflictology Open University of Catalonia, Spain Overview: Ca´rdenas traces the history of sport for the purpose of building peace. He discusses this intersection at the individual, com- munity, national, and international levels and uses Colombia as a case study to further illustrate a dynamic sport-for-peace movement. Ca´rdenas concludes with suggestions for the future of research on sport and peace building. The use of sports for peace-building purposes has gained unprecedented attention since the first decade of the twenty-first century. Identifying in sports a set of arguably unique characteristics that facilitate the advancement of devel- opment and peace work, a wide array of peace-promoting institutions, sports federations, civil society, transnational organizations, and governmental agen- cies have enthusiastically (and sometimes uncritically) advocated the benefits of sports as a vehicle for social transformation. In the developing world, a growing number of social interventions are aimed at fulfilling specific peace goals via sports, while at the same time, an upsurge of academic literature has examined the role, limitations, and opportunities of sports as a peace tool. The aim of this chapter is to examine the role of sports in peace building both conceptually and practically. The peace theorist John Paul Lederach’s definition of peace building is used in this chapter, understood here as ‘‘a comprehensive concept that encompasses, generates and sustains the full array of processes, approaches and stages needed to transform conflict toward more sustainable, peaceful relations’’ (1997, 19). Peace building in this sense entails an institutional, collective, and individual transformation aimed at rebuilding long-term relations between conflicting sides, while addressing structural issues and creating oppor- tunities for all members of society in order to guarantee justice and sustain peace.
