NEWSLETTER NO.8, THURSDAY 29th MAY, 2013 PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Dear Parents, What a fantastic excursion we had to Sovereign Hill last week. I think it’s safe to say all teachers, par- ents and students learnt a lot about what it must have been like to live on the Goldfields of Ballarat during the Australian Gold Rush. Highlights of our two day trip included watching the ‘Blood on the Southern Cross’ show, witnessing gold get smelted and re-poured into gold bars, descending into the Red Hill Mine, dressing up in olden day clothes, panning for gold and witnessing children consume lol- lipops the size of their own heads! A big thanks must go to Mrs Walsh who organised the excursion and to all the parents who helped over the two days. I really appreciated all the support and sympa- thy I received from those parents and teachers who witnessed my efforts trying to fill up the school bus on Thursday night! We have a huge fortnight coming up here at Currawa PS. The Life Education Van date has been changed from this Friday to next Monday and we will attend Dookie PS for the full day. Buses will run as per normal.

We have two Cluster Days next Tuesday and Thursday too. The first will be with the Small Schools Cluster and we will watch a performance of Sleeping Beauty in the morning and compete in a range of Tabloid Sports in the afternoon. These performances have been a highlight of our Cluster Days in the past and we are all looking forward to joining our friends from Congupna, Tallygaroopna, , Zeerust, Dookie and Primary Schools.

The second of our Cluster Days next week will be held here at Currawa and will involve a cultural Opera Performance and sports activities with the Mokoan Cluster. We will be catering for this event and any help from parents would be much appreciated. We will have 125 students attending from the Australian Christian College, Thoona, Longwood, Broken Creek, Tungamah and Devenish Primary Schools. The week after will be a short week at school! We have a Public Holiday on June 10th and a Pupil-free Report Writing Day the next day on June 11th. Thank you to those that have completed our online Kids Matter Survey. We ask all parents to com- plete the survey as soon as possible. The survey can be found at www.kidsmatter.edu.au/primary/resources- your-journey/other-resources/school-surveys Thanks also to those families that are up-to-date with all school payments. Last Thursday Currawa went to Sovereign Hill. When we got there we went to the Hotel. In the room I was with Jessica, Becky, Cate, mum, Kat, Sophie and Lowanna. There were 9 beds. After that we went to the gold mine. After that we went to the lolly makers shop then we got to dress up in olden day clothes. When we finished I went to buy lollies then we went to the gold pour before going back to the Hotel and having dinner. We went to the place of the Southern Cross at night time. The next day we went out for breakfast and I went to the gold tour. Afterwards we went to the bus to go home. By Gabi

Last Thursday I went to the hotel. After that I went to the candy shop. I went to the gold mine. I panned for gold. By Fletcher.

Last Thursday I woke up. I got dressed had brekkie, brushed my teeth and went to school in Dad’s car. When we were at school I and the whole school went in the bus to Sovereign Hill. But some parents had to drive in their own car so it took 4 HOURS! When we were finally there we stayed in an amazing hotel then we went to a lolly shop and saw them making raspberry drops. Then we visited the education centre and got into lots of awesome cos- tumes. I was dressed up as a gentle man and we played games. When we got out in the sunshine we went to the hotel but Mr Cleary and Mrs Walsh had a problem opening the door so we went around the other way. When we got to the hotel we had an hour of play time. After that I went to blood on the southern cross and the next day we had brekkie and went back to school. My trip to sovereign hill was a REAL success. I hope I go to Sovereign hill again bye!! Thanks TEACHERS! By Seb
