Dayton, Ohio Invests in High Tech Trolleybuses with In-Motion Charging
Published by the Electric Traction Committee, Edmonton Trolley Coalition Edited by Retired Employees of the Edmonton Transit Service VOL. 36 Adopting Tomorrow’s Technology Today: Dayton, Ohio invests in High Tech Trolleybuses with In-Motion Charging After lengthy testing, the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (GDRTA) is buying 26 NexGen Electric Trolleys and will put the first production model in service by 2019. The RTA Board authorized spending up to $57.4 million for the 26 vehicles and parts, plus 15 more NexGen Trolleys that will be bought once federal funding is in place, Executive Director Mark Donaghy told reporters. It is the largest bus contract in RTA history. The NexGen Electric Trolleybus bus costs 63 percent more than a standard diesel transit bus, but has a 20-year, 800,000 mile life compared to the diesel’s 12-year, 500,000 mile life, Donaghy said. Electric trolleys are cheaper to operate, better for the environment and quieter than a diesel bus, he explained. “Using electric instead of diesel buses is a step towards a clean air environment for Dayton,” said Peggy Ann Berry, an occupational safety and health professional and Climate Reality Project leader in Dayton. “Diesel buses release dirty fossil fuel emissions into the environment. These emissions exacerbate asthma attacks as well as add to the cardiac burden of older adults.” RTA is now finalizing the cost of the NexGen after making several modifications to the prototype. The US Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is picking up 80 percent of the cost, and the rest comes from the local sales tax and rider fares. -

Section B: Rollout Plan General Information In 2016, the Santa Monica City Council adopted the Zero Carbon 2030 Fleet Plan and directed Big Blue Bus (BBB) to undertake a landmark process to convert its fleet to zero emission propulsion systems, ahead of the 2040 mandate. This plan directs the Big Blue Bus to buy 100% zero emission vehicles for its transit fleet allowing for a full transition to zero emissions without early retirement of vehicles. This plan is intended to be a living 1 | Page document which is subject to change as zero emission bus technology and infrastructure mature. The rollout plan was adopted by City Council on June 23, 2020. A copy of the resolution is included in appendix A. Box 421079 San Diego, CA 92142-1079 858-279-5070 www.rea-parker.com May, 2003 Regional Weekday Travel Patterns MTA On-Board Bus Survey This report contains 1,058 maps showing the travel patterns of MTA Metro Bus riders on a line-by-line basis. For MTA each bus line (except Line 620, which is a loop and does not travel in two different directions), there are 9 maps included in this report (Volumes 2-5), as follows (Line 620 is represented by 5 maps): Two origin maps (one for each direction of the bus line) that show where each rider starts his or her linked trip, which is not necessarily near the link (bus line) being surveyed; Two destination maps (one for each direction), again indicating the ultimate destination for the linked trip; Two alighting stop maps—one for each direction of travel and indicating the final bus or rail stop for the linked trip; Two boarding stop maps—one for each direction and showing the first bus or rail stop of the linked trip; One home address map for each rider of the line. Municipal Operator maps (Volume 6) are 5 in number for each Operator (total of 60 maps): origins, destinations, alightings, boardings, and home addresses—all without regard to direction of travel or bus line.
