NORDEN ISSUES

The following information was found on the Jay Smith & Associates web site, http://www.jaysmith.com. Reprinted here with grateful appreciation to Jay Smith.

“Starting in 1956, the Scandinavian countries have issued "Norden" stamps to commemorate their cooperation in postal operations. The Norden stamp issues have come to encompass all eight current Scandinavian/Nordic stamp- issuing entities. "Norden" stamps are issued only every few years, currently every other year. At first, the stamps all had a common design, but now they are different designs, but they share a com- mon theme. For 2004, 2006, and 2008, the "Norden" countries have issued stamps on the theme of Nordic Mythol- ogy. For 2008, the specific theme is Nor- dic Mythology.”

Each of the 8 countries has issued a sou- venir sheet; two of the countries also have matching regular sheet stamps is- sues. The eight souvenir sheets are avail- able in a wonderful pack / folder (and of course individually too), titled "Top of the World of Stamps". All these are in stock, along with first day covers, maxi- mum cards where issued, and official packs from Denmark and Norway. Many consider the subject to be highly interest- ing and the stamps beautiful.”
