  • Dobber's 2010-11 Fantasy Guide
DOBBER’S 2010-11 FANTASY GUIDE DOBBERHOCKEY.COM – HOME OF THE TOP 300 FANTASY PLAYERS I think we’re at the point in the fantasy hockey universe where DobberHockey.com is either known in a fantasy league, or the GM’s are sleeping. Besides my column in The Hockey News’ Ultimate Pool Guide, and my contributions to this year’s Score Forecaster (fifth year doing each), I put an ad in McKeen’s. That covers the big three hockey pool magazines and you should have at least one of them as part of your draft prep. The other thing you need, of course, is this Guide right here. It is not only updated throughout the summer, but I also make sure that the features/tidbits found in here are unique. I know what’s in the print mags and I have always tried to set this Guide apart from them. Once again, this is an automatic download – just pick it up in your downloads section. Look for one or two updates in August, then one or two updates between September 1st and 14th. After that, when training camp is in full swing, I will be updating every two or three days right into October. Make sure you download the latest prior to heading into your draft (and don’t ask me on one day if I’ll be updating the next day – I get so many of those that I am unable to answer them all, just download as late as you can). Any updates beyond this original release will be in bold blue.

the world’s first crowd-sourced fantasy hockey league IceHLIceHL 20112011 YEARBOOKYEARBOOK INAUGURAL EDITION icethetics.info • FREE YEARBOOK IceHL 2011 From the commissioner... Hello IceHL Fans! What began as an ambitious idea to build and brand a hockey league from the ground up has turned into one of the most sought-after fantasy leagues on the web. In 2008, we began a design-by-democracy process of creating a league from scratch on the Icethetics blog. Readers voted on every aspect from deciding which cities would get teams to what names logos each should use. Two years after the project began, 20 fans breathed life into the league by taking part in our inaugural fantasy hockey season. As we begin our second year, I thought it appropriate to take a look back at how we got where we are and what happened during that inaugural season. I hope you enjoy this yearbook and the upcoming IceHL season! Chris Smith IceHL Commissioner www.icethetics.info P.S.: Try not to confuse me with the über-talented IceHL logo artist who shares my name and whose work you will see throughout this book. Enjoy! 2 YEARBOOK IceHL 2011 From the Ground Up... The project was announced as “From the Ground Up” on Aug. 10, 2008. In that blog post, plans were laid out for Icethetics’ biggest undertaking to date. Designing an entire hockey league from scratch would be an arduous process, but readers would be able to give their input in every decision made, every step of the way. NORTH AMERICA OR THE WORLD? After 69% of readers showed an interest in moving forward with the project, they were asked how the geography of the league should be defined.

Prior to the Rangers game on March 21st, the Carolina Hurricanes Booster Club members in attendance at the pregame reception got to interact with former Hurricanes players Jesse Boulerice and Niclas Wallin. Both appeared in the 4th Annual Carolina Hurricanes Alumni Game at PNC Arena. Jesse Boulerice played professional hockey for 16 years including stops with 4 NHL teams (Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes, St Louis Blues, and the Edmonton Oilers). Following his retirement in 2011, Jesse joined Merill Lynch as a Financial Advisor. His retirement after all those years of being labeled as an enforcer took its toll on Boulerice’s enthusiasm for the game. Last September, when he coached a RYHA Y14 team, it brought back the passion he once had. Hurricanes Alumni - Continued on page 7. Researchers have developed a variety of advanced statistics to assist general managers and coaches in evaluating player actions. These advanced statistics fail to account for the context in which an action occurs or to look ahead to the long-term effects of an action. I apply the Markov Game formalism to play-by-play events recorded in the National Hockey League to develop a novel approach to valuing player actions.
