This was Steiner’s second-career multi-goal game and first on the road after previously scoring twice against New Mexico State on Oct. 28, 2017. Steiner opened the scoring in the 12th minute on assists by freshman Mari Liis Lillemae and junior Emily ZaPata. Steiner then completed the scoring in the 79th minute off a feed by sophomore Anna Torslov. Steiner now has five goals this season. In-between, Barbara Castellanos tied the match at 1 for the Cougars (0-16, 0-14 WAC) off a pass from Gisselle Sahagun. Lillemae scored the game-winning goal in the 54th minute. Lillemae now has two goals this season, both of which have been game-winners. The Vaqueros outshot the Cougars 29-7, including 15-4 on goal. Junior Maile Lunardi (9-5-2) made three saves. The Vaqueros (9-6-2, 6-6-1 WAC) have won at least eight matches in each of the seasons going back to 2016 posting a 9-8-3 record in 2019, 12-6-3 in 2018, 9-8-3 in 2017 and 10-8-1 in 2016. UTRGV got all the scoring it needed in the first half as junior Emily ZaPata scored her sixth goal of the season in the 12th minute for the 1-0 lead.
