Canadian Tour 1983 - is the third studio album of Sofia Rotaru, recorded in Ukraine. The album was released in 1983 in Canada and United States with 12 tracks. The given album is not part of the official discography of Sofia Rotaru and is therefore one of the earliest releases of the singer abroad. The release of the album followed the concert tour in Canada in 1983. After the album was released the Soviet concert administration put in effect interdiction to Sofia Rotaru to leave the Soviet Union for 5 consecutive years due to her increasing popularity in the West. In 1983, American musical critics describe Sofia as a widely known singer in the US and Canada, whereas Western European musical critics call her the Soviet Nana Mouskouri. Yedynomu - is the third studio album of Sofia Rotaru, recorded in Ukraine. The album was released in 2003 in Ukraine and Russia with 16 tracks with consequent worldwide release. This album appeared after a pause in Rotaru's career caused by the death of her husband Anatoliy Evdokimenko and is a tribute to his memory.

The First Channel of Moscow’s Central Television Studio began to reach all eleven Soviet time zones in the same years, 1965-1970, that marked the beginning of a new political era, the period of decline, corruption, and cynicism, but also stability, relative prosperity, and vibrant popular culture, that came to be called, retrospectively, the “era of stagnation.” Nearly all of the iconic images and sounds of this period were mediated by television: Brezhnev’s slurred speech and corpselike appearance, the singing of Iosif Kobzon and Alla Pugacheva, the parades and funerals on Red Square, and Olympic figure skating, to name just a few. Study Russian at BU The Russian Program at Boston University is a particularly active and close-knit group of students and faculty. The Russian Program offers beginning, intermediate, and advanced Russian courses, including blended mode first-year Russian. Russian majors reach either an Intermediate-High or Advanced-Low level of proficiency and are expected to be able to communicate effectively in the language. Many of our students double major in Russian and other disciplines; students interested in studying Russian in conjunction with another major may also elect a minor in Russian language and culture. Our students take part in a wide array of educational and entertaining activities, including poetry readings, invited speakers’ lectures and workshops, making films in Russian, learning Russian cuisine.     9 THE STRUGGLE FOR DEMOCRACY AND SOVEREIGNTY Rukh's inaugural congress As was to be expected, Rukh's inaugural congress turned into a celebration of the national and political awakening of Ukraine and was a landmark in modern Ukrainian history. Held in the hall of Kyiv's Polytechnical Institute, which was lavishly decorated with Ukrainian national symbols and regional emblems, and with the Ukrainian Zaporozhyan Cossack march sounding as the theme tune, the atmosphere was euphoric. Not since the days of the shortlived independent Ukrainian state seventy years before had Kyiv witnessed such a gathering. The broader international sig• nificance of what the congress represented was emphasized by one of the main foreign guests, the Polish historian and veteran Solidarity activist, Adam Michnik. With the 'totalitarian system' in Eastern and Central Europe collapsing and a new European community of free nations appearing in its place, this 'historic day' of'Ukraine's national rebirth' was important for 'all of Europe', he maintained. Michnik brought the delegates to their feet by calling for closer Polish-Ukrainian cooperation in a 'new common European family' and by finishing his speech with the words: 'Long live a democratic, just, free Ukraine!' Rukh's growth had been spectacular. According to the data presented at the congress, the Popular Movement's membership had soared to almost 280,000. The congress was attended by 1,109 of the 1,158 elected delegates (some were prevented from participating by local authorities), representing 1,247 groups throughout Ukraine and several in the Baltic republics. The delegates represented a broad cross-section of Ukraine's population and included 994 Ukrainians, 77 Russians, 9 Jews, 6 Poles, 6 Belarusians, 2 Armenians, and representatives of seven other national groups.
