TTIP is a competitive program for science, technology, and mathematics teachers who serve as summer interns at industry and university sites in order to experience real-world applications of the subjects they teach. In 1996, a total of 12 teachers interned at seven sites and were required to develop a curriculum implementation plan (CIP) which illustrated how they would translate the summer experience into the subsequent year's classroom curricula.
