There are many Quaker websites, but the resources available to establish and maintain these websites vary greatly. Britain Yearly Meeting and Philadelphia Yearly Meeting are the unprogrammed Yearly Meeting websites with most information about Quaker thought, history and practice. The most user-friendly Quaker bookshop site is probably that maintained by Friends General Conference (FGC) in Philadelphia. In what follows I have provided brief annotations relating to websites I have found useful.

Lyndsay Farrall April 2012

www.quaker.org This is the most general of the Quaker websites and tries to list every other Quaker website in the world. It is coordinated from the USA and is a good way to track down the multitude of Quaker organisations. It can take some patience if you want to find some particular website or kind of website, but if there is a Quaker website relevant to your interest it will probably be on this list.

www.quakers.org.au The Quaker website maintained by Australia Yearly Meeting. It contains information about Australian Quakers, their publications, and their Meetings. The “About Quakers” button on the front page of the website includes a heading, “Children”, in its drop-down menu. This link contains material placed on the website by the Yearly Meeting Children and Junior Young Friends Committee. There is much material on this website about Australian Quaker concerns and actions. The heading, “Quaker Books for Sale” in the drop down menu for Publications gives advice on how to obtain Quaker publications in Australia and from overseas sources.

Websites with material relevant to children and Junior Young Friends

www.quaker.org.uk Britain Yearly Meeting’s website contains a huge amount of material about Quakers, their history, their concerns and their present programs. Using the address http://www.quaker.org.uk/cyp-resources will take you directly to the section of the website detailing resources available from BYM for use with children and JYFs.

www.pym.org Philadelphia Yearly Meeting shares with AYM the tradition of unprogrammed worship. They also maintain a website with an enormous amount of material. http://www.pym.org/childrens-curriculum will take you directly to one section of the website listing material developed for use with children. There is a significant amount of material which can be downloaded free of charge. You may also wish to browse the section of the website at http://www.pym.org/programs/youth

www.fgcquaker.org Friends General Conference (FGC) is an umbrella organisation for Quakers of the unprogrammed tradition in the United States and Canada. It runs an annual summer conference usually attended by several hundred people of all ages and maintains a good bookshop in Philadelphia which takes orders via this site. www.quakerbooks.org is the website of the bookshop associated with FGC and is worth searching for appropriate material for children and young people.

Other Significant Quaker Websites

www.fcnl.org This is the website of the Friends Committee on National Legislation, a lobby group maintained by American Quakers in Washington DC. It contains some excellent material about Quaker peace and social justice concerns and is a good source for showing how Quakers might lobby national governments on such concerns. Its policy and action program is summed up as follows: “We Seek a World Free of War and the Threat of War; We Seek a Society with Equity and Justice for All; We Seek a Community Where Every Person's Potential May Be Fulfilled; We Seek an Earth Restored.” This is a key source for those interested in peace and social justice, but it has no material specifically designed for children.

www.quno.org This is the entry point for the Quaker United Nations Offices (QUNO) maintained in New York and Geneva. The Religious Society of Friends is one of many NGOs (Non-Government Organisations) formally affiliated with the United Nations and its offices have a small staff of professionals who work on human rights, peace and disarmament and development issues of concern to Quakers round the world. Several Australian Young Friends have worked as interns in both offices soon after graduating from university. The QUNO website does not have any specific material designed for children, but it does have a wealth of material about Quaker work at the UN.

www.fwccworld.org The website of the international organisation which coordinates contacts between Friends from different parts of the world and from different theological traditions.
