Očekávaný vývoj v teritoriu s akcentem na ekonomickou sféru. Ekonomika Belize je založena především na turistice, zemědělství a rybolovu, zpracování zemědělských produktů a těžbě ropy. V lednu 2013 byl revidován zákon o domácích bankovních a finančních institucích, který posílil roli centrální banky. V březnu 2013 došlo k restrukturalizaci státního dluhu – splatnost dluhopisů byla posunuta z roku 2029 na rok 2038, úrok byl snížen z 8,5 % na 5 %, bylo tak uspořeno 130 mil. USD. V roce 2019 rostlo HDP o 3,8 %, a to díky zemědělství a zvýšené turistice. Míra inflace v roce 2019 byla 0,2 %. Úrokové sazby lokálních bank jsou vysoké, kolem 13 % v případě hypoték a 17 % při osobních půjčkách. Půjčky k rozvoji ekonomiky poskytuje DFC, nejpreferovanějšími sektory jsou turistika, zemědělství a stavebnictví. K financování rozvojových projektů Belize využívá rozvojové agentury a banky, zejména Světovou banku (WB), Meziamerickou rozvojovou banku (IADB) nebo Karibskou rozvojovou banku (CDB). Financování je poskytováno na projekty, které přispívají ke snížení chudoby, zlepšení systému zdravotnictví, školství nebo v oblasti modernizace infrastruktury. Obchodní daň – platí obchody, obchodní společnosti a samostatní podnikatelé ze zisku. Její výše se pohybuje v závislosti od druhu podnikání od 0,75 % do 15 %. Převážná většina obchodních činností daní sazbou ve výši 1,25 %. Od obchodní daně jsou osvobozeny roční zisky z obchodu do 27 tis. USD, zisky z měsíčního pronájmu do 825 USD a zisky z podnikání v zónách volného obchodu. Správu daně z příjmu zajišťuje Income Tax Department. Prodejní daň – na základě Sales Tax Act z roku 1999 se výrobci a poskytovatelé služeb, jejichž měsíční výnosy přesáhnou 2,5 tis. USD nebo roční 27 tis. USD, musí zaregistrovat jako plátci prodejní daně (sale tax agents). Tato daň je aplikována v závislosti na druhu výrobku a charakteru poskytované služby a je odváděna měsíčně. Sazby prodejní daně jsou následující: • 12 % alkohol, tabák, ropné deriváty; • 9 % ostatní výrobky a služby. Osvobozeny jsou dodávky elektrické energie a vody, dovoz do zón volného obchodu, export zboží, hotelové ubytovaní, zboží a služby hrazené z prostředků zahraničních rozvojových fondů, základní potraviny (např. rýže, fazole, kukuřice, maso, cukr, vejce, chleba) dále léky, hnojiva, pesticidy, fungicidy, herbicidy, ryby, osivo. Environmentální daň – vybírána při dovozech ve výši 1 % hodnoty CIF. Tato daň byla zavedena v roce 2001 na základě Environmental Tax Act. Emory Felix was reportedly shot at least seven times, and 13 expended shells were found on Bay- men Avenue near where he fell and died. Maurice Felix was shot, sources say, at least three times, and 17 expended shells were found in the area near his body.
