Communiqué De Presse Communiqué De Presse 29 MARS 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix race report All four Renaultpowered cars finished in the points in today’s Malaysian Grand Prix. After 56 laps of hardfought racing the two Scuderia Toro Rosso cars passed the flag in seventh and eighth, leading home the Infiniti Red Bull Racing duo, who finished ninth and tenth. Key race points: Max Verstappen became the youngestever driver to score points in a Formula 1 race when he brought his Scuderia Toro Rosso home in P7. The 17yearold started from a superb sixth on the grid and battled with his teammate, the two Williams and Red Bulls at various stages in the race. Some inspired overtaking moves allowed the Dutchman to collect his first points’ haul just two races into the season. Scuderia Toro Rosso teammate Carlos Sainz had a similarly impressive race. The Spaniard stayed out of the pits during the early safety car period and ran in the top six until his first stop. He graduated back up the field, likewise engaged in a tight fight with the Williams and Red Bulls before his second stop. He was passed by Verstappen seven laps from the end but held off the two Red Bulls until the flag. Daniil Kvyat finished in P9 for Infiniti Red Bull Racing. The Russian was bottled up behind the Force India of Hulkenberg around one third of the race, but as he attempted to pass he got punted onto the grass. Hulkenberg was handed a penalty, but Kvyat had already dropped down the order. He fought back to P10 and passed teammate Ricciardo on lap 53. Daniel Ricciardo crossed the line in P10. He also lost time behind the Force India and eventually ceded one place to Kvyat just before the end of the race. Rémi Taffin, Director of Operations: “Four cars in the points after one of the toughest races of the year shows the amount of work that has gone on behind the scenes in the last two weeks. Driveability has been reasonably levelled up, and the drivers could clearly explore the potential of their cars. Absolute performance can be and will be improved while we are some way behind the front of the pack. We clearly have some potential in hand and improving reliability will allow us to get closer in the near future. We’ll work hard with Toro Rosso and Red Bull to make sure we’re maximizing this potential. Finally, congrats to Max for his impressive race and his first points and a special bravo to Sebastian for his victory.” Cyril Abiteboul, Managing Director: “We said after Melbourne that we needed to react to the problems, but not overreact and we can see that the measures and countermeasures put in place since then have played dividends here. Enginewise we are much more where we should have been in Australia. Reliability has globally been good – as it should be – and the improvements to driveability have allowed the teams to focus on the setups and see where the true performance of the cars is at the moment. Finishing one lap behind the leaders isn’t where we need to be, but now we have very clear targets. Ferrari has done a great job in the last few months, it shows that Mercedes can be caught if all the ingredients are there. We need to focus on our job, play the long game and keep pushing every time we hit the track.” GROUPE RENAULT PRESS OFFICE Tel.: +33 (0)1 76 84 63 36 [email protected] Communiqué De Presse 29 MARS 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix race report All four Renaultpowered cars finished in the points in today’s Malaysian Grand Prix. The company is believed to have taken the decision after indications in Japan that the automotive markets are not getting any better, Honda having recently announced a 56% drop in earnings in the last quarter, compared to 2008. Prior to that the company was looking at other options, such as selling the team on to someone else. This has now been axed and the company will simply close things down and settle all the necessary contractual commitments as quickly as possible. The news, if confirmed, will be another blow to the manufacturer power in F1 as it will be the third withdrawal by a major car company in 11 months, following in the footsteps of Honda and BMW. There are also doubts about the future of Renault's factory team. The news will also be a blow to the Formula One Teams' Association, although the members have learned that working together produces much better results than trying to take on the authorities alone. It also means that there are now just three manufacturers left: Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault, and engine supply from Cosworth will become essential to ensure there are sufficient engines to go around.

  • Communiqué De Presse
Communiqué De Presse 12 AVRIL 2015 Chinese Grand Prix race report Today’s Chinese Grand Prix came to a disappointing conclusion with just one Renault powered car collecting points. Infiniti Red Bull Racing driver Daniel Ricciardo finished in ninth position, having recovered from a slow start off the line. Scuderia Toro Rosso passed the flag in 14th position with Carlos Sainz. Key race points: Daniel Ricciardo had a very slow start from seventh on the grid and dropped back to P17 at the end of the first lap. Despite setting a good pace, the Australian was caught in traffic and progress through the field was tricky. After a two stop race he finished in ninth. Daniil Kvyat retired on lap 16 with an ICE failure. Scuderia Toro Rosso’s Max Verstappen put in another fighting performance, overtaking multiple cars throughout the race. The Dutchman looked set for eighth position but just two laps from the end stopped suddenly on the pit straight with an ICE problem. Teammate Carlos Sainz enjoyed a good start, but spun on the second lap and dropped down the order. A reported gearbox problem mid race caused a momentary loss of power but heavy traffic made it difficult to make an impression on the field. The Spaniard came home in 14th. Rémi Taffin, Director of Operations: We had a number of issues in China and did not give the drivers the equipment they needed. We developed a car system problem in Qualifying on Daniel’s car so we changed the ICE as a precaution. Then we had two unforeseen failures in the race.

Communiqué De Presse 27 JUILLET 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix Race Report HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX RACE REPORT Infiniti Red Bull RacingRenault driver Daniel Ricciardo raced to victory in today’s absorbing Hungarian Grand Prix. Daniel’s win, the second for the team and for the Renault Energy F12014 Power Unit this season, came after a thrilling threeway battle for the lead with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton. Sebastian Vettel secured seventh position for Infiniti Red Bull Racing and JeanEric Vergne ninth for Scuderia Toro Rosso, putting three Renault Energy F12014 Power Units into the top ten. The result consolidates Infiniti Red Bull Racing’s second position in the constructors’ championship and Daniel Ricciardo’s third in the drivers’ race. Key race points: Daniel Ricciardo mastered the everevolving track conditions to move into the lead on lap 9 during the first safety car period. He retained the lead until the second deployment of the safety car and then pitted for a third time in the final third of the race. The Australian hunted down Rosberg for P3, then made a bravado move on Lewis Hamilton for second on lap 67. The next lap he outbraked Alonso into the first corner for the lead and eased out a cushion of five seconds to seal his second career win and the second for the Renault Energy F12014 Power Unit. Sebastian Vettel was sitting in the top three until the first safety car. Pulling into the pits a lap after the following pack dropped him down the field, into the middle of a closefought battle for fourth position with Vergne, Rosberg and Hamilton.

  • Porsche 919 Hybrid English.Indd
Porsche 919 Hybrid Return to top-level sport Porsche is making its comeback to the top-level motorsport arena: with the new 919 Hybrid the sports car brand is sending a platform for pioneering technology to the top category of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with the undisputed seasonal highlight of the 24-hour Le Mans race. Porsche's reputation precedes it at this venue: with 16 overall victories under its belt, the brand holds the record for this, the most famous endurance race in the world. In 2014 Porsche is returning to the top-level class endurance race after a 16-year absence - namely Le Mans Prototypes (LMP1). Matthias Müller, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG explains: "The new and revolutionary efficiency regulations for this class were what prompted us to take this step. In 2014 it is not going to be the fastest contender who is going to win the sports car world championship and Le Mans, but the car that gets furthest with the defined amount of energy. And it is precisely this challenge that the automotive industry has to face. The 919 Hybrid is like a high speed research laboratory and the most complex racing car Porsche has ever built." The new WEC regulations for the LMP1 racing car gives engineers an unusual amount of leeway and demands pioneering technology, such as hybridisation, downsizing engines and consistent lightweight construction. This is all particularly relevant for the development of future generations of factory-spec sports cars. Maximum sporting performance and highest efficiency are at the heart of "Porsche Intelligent Performance".
