LOCKDOWN PROCEDURES A lockdown is declared when, in the opinion of the Facilities Manager a situation exists threatening the safety of employees and guests, and requires that they remain in their offices. Facility Manager’s/Security’s Responsibilities: Lockdown will be declared by the emergency intercom system and phone intercom system. Call 911 if necessary. Direct the emergency alarm to be turned off. Escort any employees or guests in the hallways to a safe location. Isolate the lockdown area. Await the arrival of emergency responders. Provide assistance as needed. Team Leader’s/Staff’s responsibilities: Immediately do a quick sweep of the hallways and instruct any employees or guests to go into a secured area. Lock your office doors. Doors must never be open. Proper authorities will have keys. Stay with employees, guests record names and provide assistance. If employees or guests come into a room record names for reporting later. Keep employees and guests quiet and out of the line of sight from interior windows. Turn off lights. Maintain calm. Keep all employees and guests in a secured area. Do not leave room. Listen for announcements and further instructions. Wait with the employees and guests until a uniformed officer or a building administrator known to you invites you out. Do not respond to the fire alarm during a lockdown unless a known administrator makes a supporting announcement. Managers should do a sweep of the hallways, instruct employees and guests to a safe location, record their names and await further instruction. FIRE/EVACUATION PROCEDURES A Fire/evacuation is declared when a situation exists threatening the safety of employees and guests and requires that the facility be cleared. Facilities Manager’s/Security’s Responsibilities: Signal an evacuation from the building by using the fire alarm system when appropriate. Involve other staff as necessary. Call 911 If employees or guests need to leave the premises, record their names and coordinate information with emergency responders. Team Leader’s/Staff’s Responsibilities: Close doors, do not lock. Be alert to and assist any employees/guests with a disability if needed. Evacuate employees and guests quietly and in an orderly fashion. Report to your designated area and call roll. Report any missing employees to the Facilities Manager/Security. Be alert for further instructions. Return to building only after the Facilities Manager/Security or fire Department gives the “all clear” signal. Avoid emergency vehicles. .
