Position Overview As a key member of the Executive Management Team, the CFO will assume a strategic role in the overall management of the agency. The CFO will have primary day to day responsibility for accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning and deal analysis/negotiations. The position holder is tasked with ensuring long term financial sustainability while optimizing service and performance levels. The CFO reports to the Chief Executive Officer/President. General Responsibilities: Planning • Participate with Senior Management and Board Members in the development of the long-term strategic plan, with particular focus on the financial implications of the varied strategic initiatives. 1640 Washington Street • Boston, MA • 02118 • T 617.369.1550 • F 617.369.1566 www.hearth -home.org • Monitor, measure and report on the implementation status of strategic planning elements. • Develop performance measures and monitoring systems that support the Agency’s strategic direction. Operations • Ensure credibility of the Finance Department by providing timely, accurate financial information, including actual financial performance, budgets, trends and forecasts. • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with various government and other stakeholders. • Direct and manage all aspects of the Accounting, Finance and Information Technology needs of the Agency, which includes leadership/relationship development of outsourced financial activities like property accounting (Peabody Properties) and the investment fund (Congress Wealth Management). • Establish and maintain strong relationships with Senior Executives to identify needs and seek a full range of business solutions. Provide advice on the financial implications of business activities. • Assume financial responsibility for all building developments and subsequent operational resident ramp-up, including service need assessments, staffing needs and funding sources. • Implement operational best practices. • Participate in the development and continuous review/improvement of optimum employee compensation and benefit strategies. Funding/Sustainability • Monitor cash balances and projected future cash flows. • Establish short and long-term contingency plans in the event of cash shortages. • Cultivate a number of bank relationships to provide financial flexibility while minimizing cash flow risks and maximizing financial returns on excess cash. Risk Management • Understand and mitigate key elements of the Agency’s risk profile. • Construct and monitor control systems and report risk issues to the Audit Committee. • Ensure that the Agency complies with stakeholder requirements. • Cultivate relationships with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations. Transition Willingness to work with experienced consultant to understand nuances of a complex organizational structure with multiple public and private funding sources.
