First played in Cork in the 1940’s, Pitch and Putt has developed it’s own rules, traditions and competitive circuit. Remember, our greatest wish is for you to enjoy the game. Pitch and Putt is fun! INTRODUTION TO COACHING This leaflet deals with the fundamental steps – from grip through to stance and the various strokes – to aid you to play and enjoy pitch and putt. It will give the newcomer a starting point and may help the established player to solve some problems. A PPUI Certified Coach can pinpoint the improvements that can be made in your game and give you the advice you may need. Remember, the quickest way to improve in Pitch and Putt is to practice in the right way.

PENALTY - Disqualification (in Strokeplay only) Definition: A "stroke" shall be counted as soon as the downswing commences. 1.1 Except as otherwise allowed by the Committee the holes must be played in sequence, commencing at the first hole. PENALTY – Disqualification 1.2 All Handicap Matchplay Competitions must start at the first hole. PENALTY – Disqualification 1.3 Except where otherwise provided for, the STANDARD PENALTY for any breach of any rule or local rule is: Matchplay - Loss of hole Strokeplay - Two strokes at each point at which the breach occurs. 1.4 No rule, local rule or prescribed penalty may be waived by players. SPECIAL PENALTY: Matchplay - Disqualification of both sides. Remarkably, historians have even neglected golf in America's so-called Golden Age of Sports, the decade of the 1920s. These years witnessed the transformation of golf from an esoteric, aristocratic pastime to a popular participatory and spectator sport. In fact, the country's golfing population was approximately 250,000 in 1916, but by 1925 it had climbed to 4.5 million as private and municipal courses increasingly dotted the landscape.
