Blazer Vanes

Do Blazer vanes work with broadheads? Blazer vanes are designed to be used with fixed and mechanical broadheads. They also work very well with field points and can be used for target shooting.

How should Blazer vanes be fletched? Blazer vanes should be fletched in the same location as any other vane. We recommend a three-degree right helical, using our Blazer Helix Jig or Helix Tower Fletching Jig ™; or a two-degree offset, using our Pro-Class Fletching Jig.

How to Remove Arrow Wraps

What are the best ways to remove ArroWraps brand arrow wraps from a shaft? There are different options for removing ArroWraps: • Soak the ArroWrap in hot tap water for 5 minutes, and then peel it off. • Heat the ArroWrap with a hair dryer and then peel it off. • Scrape the ArroWrap off the shaft using Bohning's Stripper tool. Always clean the shaft well after removing an ArroWrap.

How can vanes or feathers be replaced without damaging a shaft that has an ArroWrap brand arrow wrap or crest? Unfortunately, vanes or feathers cannot easily be replaced without damaging the crest.

Cleaning Arrow Shafts

What is the best method for cleaning arrow shafts? Clean arrow shafts by scrubbing with an abrasive pad (such as Scotch Brite®), using water and a good degreasing soap, such as Bohning SSR Arrow Shaft Surface Cleaner. After scrubbing, rinse the arrow shaft with hot running water and allow it to air dry. Other degreasing products, such as Comet, Simple Green, or Ajax, can also be used. Avoid cleaning arrow shafts with alcohol, which can leave a residue and inhibit adhesion.

Temperatures for Paint and Adhesive

What happens if paint or adhesive is frozen or stored at cold temperatures? It is recommended that preventative measures should be taken to keep paints and adhesives from freezing. Some minor chemical changes may occur. If freezing does occur, allow the paint or adhesive to return to room temperature in a well-ventilated area without excessive heat before opening. This will prevent condensation. After the product returns to room temperature, it should perform normally. Do not place the can directly on or near a furnace.

What is the optimal temperature and humidity to use Fletch-Lac Paint? The temperature should be between 55°F and 85°F and the humidity should be less than 65%.

Dipping, Cresting, and Fletching Arrows

Is it necessary to wipe vanes with a solvent to remove any residue before fletching? No. Bohning vanes are pretreated with a primer along the base to promote adhesion.

How do I prepare my arrow shafts for dipping and fletching? We recommend cutting the shaft and installing all necessary hardware prior to cleaning the shaft. This minimizes handling of the shaft and reduces the risk of contamination. The most important part of arrow building is the proper cleaning of the arrow shaft. (See What is the best method for cleaning arrow shafts?) Failure to properly prepare the shaft can create poor adhesion of fletching, paints, and stains. Any arrow should be dipped or fletched as soon as possible after cleaning to keep the shafts from becoming contaminated.

Do I need to thin Fletch-Lac Clear or Blue Clear? No. Do not thin these products; they are ready to use.

Does dipping and cresting paint have to be thinned? Yes. It is necessary to thin dipping and cresting paint to the correct viscosity.

How much thinner should be added to dipping paint? What if the paint is too thin? When the paint runs freely from the end of the arrow shaft for 15 to 20 seconds before it starts dripping droplets, the dipping paint is the correct viscosity. If the paint runs longer than 20 seconds, it is too thick and should be thinned with Bohning Fletch-Lac Thinner. Add thinner in small increments until the correct viscosity is reached. (There is no exact measurement of how much thinner this will require.) If the paint runs for less than 15 seconds, the paint is too thin. This can be corrected by leaving the top off the container to allow the solvents to evaporate.

I do not have Bohning thinner; can I use something else to thin my paint? Using the compatible Bohning thinner is best. However, a very-high-grade acetone (from a body shop) may be used with Lure-Lac paint, and MEK may be used with Fletch-Lac paint.

Can I dip over a crest? No. We do not recommend clear dipping over a crest. This will cause the crest lines to become fuzzy and run together.

Can I crest Bohning arrow wraps? No.

What color paint comes in the Cresting Kit? The Cresting Kit includes 1/2 pint of Gloss White and one-ounce jars of each of the following: gold, silver, black, yellow, blue, and red.

Can I mix Bohning paints? Fletch-Lac colors may be mixed with other Fletch-Lac colors, and Lure-Lac colors may be mixed with other Lure-Lac colors. You may experiment with small amounts of paints to text the color results of mixing Fletch-Lac and Lure-Lac colors together. We do not recommend mixing metallic colors with flourescent or solid colors. Because of the deep and vibrant tones of Bohning paints, colors often do not mix as conventionally as expected.

What is the difference between Fletch-Lac Clear and Blue Clear? Fletch-Lac Clear is recommended as a sealant coat for wood shafts. It is also used as a dip for aluminum shafts, to help promote better adhesion. Blue Clear is used for dipping over whites and fluorescents. It helps to produce sharper, brighter colors and may be used as a sealant.

How much Fletch-Lac paint do I need to fill my dip tube or dip tank?

Paint For a 1" diameter dip tube, you'll For a 4" diameter dip tank, you'll Depth need this much paint: need this much paint: 6 inches 4 ounces 1.5 quarts 12 inches 8 ounces 3 quarts

(Measurements are rounded to the nearest unit.)

How many arrows will I be able to fletch using a 3-gram tube of Instant Gel? You can fletch approximately 20 arrows with a 3-gram tube of Instant Gel.

How long is a roll of the Feather Fletching Tape? Each roll of Feather Fletching Tape is approximately 720" long. One roll will fletch more than 42 arrows with 3" to 5" feathers.

There are black strings floating in my Bohning paint. What are they and what should I do? Sometimes when a can is opened with a screwdriver or similar object, the lining of the can is damaged. Black, string- like pieces of damaged lining material can drop into the paint. This can also occur when the inside lining of the paint can is scraped as the paint is being stirred. To remove, we suggest running the paint through a filter, such as nylon pantyhose, which will remove the flaked can lining and leave the paint usable.

How long after fletching do I have to wait to shoot my arrows? Wait 24 hours after fletching with Bohning Fletch-Tite ® Platinum ™, to be sure your will be fully cured.

Bowstring Wax

What is the difference between Tex-Tite ™ and Seal-Tite ™? Tex-Tite ™ is a natural-product-based wax while Seal-Tite ™ is a silicone-based wax. Tex-Tite ™ provides a "tacky" coating, while Seal-Tite ™ provides a "sticky" coating. Both work very well for keeping a bowstring from drying out.

What is the melting point for Ferr-L-Tite ™? The melting point for Ferr-L-Tite ™ is 300°F.

Quivers

Will the Bohning Lever-Lock Release Quiver Mounting System fit my Bohning Quiver? The Bohning Lever-Lock Release Quiver Mounting System fits all Bohning except the Phoenix ™ two-piece quiver introduced in 2009.

How many arrows does each Bohning quiver hold? Lynx ™ 4 holds four arrows. Lynx ™ 6 holds six arrows. Panther 4 holds four arrows.

Jack Pine 5 holds five arrows. Sentry holds three arrows. Phoenix ™ holds five arrows.

How can I tell if I have a right-handed or left-handed target quiver? Hold up the quiver with the Bohning logo facing toward you. If the belt loop is on your left, it is a right-handed quiver. If the belt loop is on your right, it is a left-handed quiver.

How long are the quivers and how many tubes does each one have? • Adult Target Quivers are 19 inches long and have five tubes. • Mini Target Quivers are 14 inches long and have three tubes.

Nocks

How do I use string nocks? Place string nocks onto string and crimp with string nock pliers. Two string nocks should be used at the top, to help keep them from threading their way up the string as the bow is shot. One is also needed 1/16-inch below the top nocks. Do not use string nocks on bows with string-stopping blocks.

Can I use SSR with the nocks in place? No. We recommend you remove the nocks so the cleaner does not etch them. Also, do not use SSR on wood shafts.
