Caddie: A person who assists the player with additional responsibilities such as yardage information, cleaning the clubs, carrying the bag, tending the pin, etc. These young men & women have respect for themselves, the players and the game of golf. They provide a service that dates back to 1500’s and is integral to golf. Esteem: What you think of yourself. If you are a golfer, think very highly of yourself. Humor: A state of mind in which there is no awareness of self. Failure: By your definition Success: By your definition Greens fee: The charge (fee) to play a golf course (the greens)-not “green fees”. Always too much, but always worth it. Greenskeeper: The person or persons responsible for maintaining the golf course Starting time (tee time): A reservation for play. Arrive at least 20 minutes before your tee time. The tee time you get is the time when you’re supposed to be hitting your first shot off the first tee. Golf Course Ambassador (Ranger): A person who rides around the golf course and has the responsibility to make sure everyone has fun and keep the pace of play appropriate. Scorecard: This is the form you fill out to count up your shots. Even if you don’t want to keep score, the cards usually have some good information about each hole (Length, diagrams, etc.). And don’t forget those little pencils.

This past year, Desert Willow (Golf Operations and Food and Beverage Operations combined) saw a record breaking year in revenue generation exceeding the $11 million mark for the first time in the facility’s history. Increases coming in all departments in excess of 10% each. It is also worth noting the Food & Beverage department broke the $3 million revenue mark for the first time ever. Executive The ORCA report (an independent data collection company) again revealed that Desert Willow was the top green fee revenue generating facility in its Summary competitive set. Other areas of success included high marks in KemperSports’ True Review program, which is designed to quantify customer feedback. Scores were among the top in the KemperSports portfolio as well as in the Hospitality Industry. We achieved a customer Net Promoter Score of 85.7, which is our best ever and 5 points higher than our previous record of 80.0. In addition, the National Golf Foundation awarded Desert Willow with the 2018 Top Five Overall Customer Satisfaction Award, which includes all facilities nationwide with green fees of $70 and above who participated in the NGF’s survey.

    THE FUTURE OF GOLF COURSE ARCHITECTURE IN AMERICA by JONATHAN TROY MILLER (Under the Direction of Scott Weinberg) ABSTRACT Throughout its history in this country the game of golf has undergone constant change. These changes have come in the way of technological breakthroughs, both in maintenance practices as well as in the equipment with which the game is played. Changes have also occurred in the social fabric of the patrons that golf serves. Thirdly, the increasing environmental awareness of the public has lead to many changes in the practices of golf courses and the way they are designed. This thesis will examine those changes and the architectural reactions that followed. The future of golf course architecture is dependant upon these technological, social, and architectural trends with good design being accomplished through a complete integration of these factors to create courses that are maintainable, playable and aesthetically appealing.
