Approved by the Golf Subcommittee using input and recommendations from our customers, the Golf Procedures & Standards Manual has been adopted by the Madison Park Commission. We welcome your feedback as we continue our commitment to provide affordable and high-quality courses. General Standards and Regulations of Play 1. The playing season is from course opening to course closing. Closing is dependent on weather conditions as approved by the “Management team”, which consists of the Parks Superintendent, Assistant Parks Superintendent, Golf Operations Supervisors and Head Greenskeepers. 2. Every person playing on the golf courses must pay the applicable green fee. Your golf fees are the sole support of the City’s golf program. No City of Madison tax money is used to support the golf program. 3. For safety reasons, walk-alongs/ride-alongs are allowed only before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. -

Golf Glossary by John Gunby GENERAL GOLF TERMS: Golf: A game. Golf Course: A place to play a game of golf. Golfer,player: Look in the mirror. Caddie: A person who assists the player with additional responsibilities such as yardage information, cleaning the clubs, carrying the bag, tending the pin, etc. These young men & women have respect for themselves, the players and the game of golf. They provide a service that dates back to 1500’s and is integral to golf. Esteem: What you think of yourself. If you are a golfer, think very highly of yourself. Humor: A state of mind in which there is no awareness of self. Failure: By your definition Success: By your definition Greens fee: The charge (fee) to play a golf course (the greens)-not “green fees”. Always too much, but always worth it. Greenskeeper: The person or persons responsible for maintaining the golf course Starting time (tee time): A reservation for play. Arrive at least 20 minutes before your tee time. The tee time you get is the time when you’re supposed to be hitting your first shot off the first tee. Golf Course Ambassador (Ranger): A person who rides around the golf course and has the responsibility to make sure everyone has fun and keep the pace of play appropriate. Scorecard: This is the form you fill out to count up your shots. Even if you don’t want to keep score, the cards usually have some good information about each hole (Length, diagrams, etc.). And don’t forget those little pencils. -

Open, Tom Carter won 3 times on the Nationwide Tour 2004 Pete Oakley won the Senior British Open 2005 Will Reilly was the PGA of America’s “ Junior Golf Leader” and Rich Steinmetz was on the PGA Cup Team 2006 Jim Furyk played on his fifth straight Ryder Cup Team, won the Vardon Trophy and two PGA Tour events 2007 In October the Philadelphia PGA and the Variety Club broke ground on the Variety Club’s 3-hole golf course 2008 Tom Carpus won the PGA of America’s Horton Smith Award and Hugh Reilly received the President Plaque 2009 Mark Sheftic finished second in the PGA Professional National Championship and played on the PGA Cup Team 2000 Jim Furyk won the Doral Open on the Doral Golf Resort’s Blue Course in the first week of March. The course nicknamed the “ Blue Monster” had been toughened in 1996 by adding 27 bunkers, which most of the play- ers didn’t care for. In 1999 the course had been reworked to its original Dick Wilson design, but now most of the players thought the course was too easy. -

(May 4, 2020) – The PGA TOUR, NBC Sports and Sky Sports today announced the return of televised golf with TaylorMade Driving Relief, centered around a $3 million charity skins match supported by UnitedHealth Group to raise money and awareness for the American Nurses Foundation and CDC Foundation, two organizations helping to lead COVID-19 relief efforts. On Sunday, May 17, from Seminole Golf Club, TaylorMade Driving Relief will feature two-time FedExCup champion and World No. 1 Rory McIlroy and 20-time PGA TOUR winner Dustin Johnson, teaming up against two Oklahoma State University alumni: PGA TOUR superstar Rickie Fowler and 2019 first-time TOUR winner and 2019 NCAA National Champion Matthew Wolff. The competition will follow strict CDC social distancing guidelines, local mandates and will utilize appropriate testing measures to help protect the health and safety of the golfers, production crew and others on site.
