NHL MORNING SKATE – NOV. 12, 2019 THREE HARD LAPS * The Hurricanes erupted for eight goals as defenseman Dougie Hamilton, forward Andrei Svechnikov and head coach Rod Brind'Amour each contested their 100th regular-season game with the franchise. * The Capitals overcame a 3-0 deficit in regulation, but Nick Schmaltz scored the decisive goal in the shootout to lift the Coyotes past the NHL’s first-place team. * Several streaks are on the line as 18 teams are in action across nine games tonight. HURRICANES SCORE EIGHT GOALS TO SNAP SLIDE The Hurricanes scored eight goals – eclipsing their season high set on Nov. 1 in their last win (7-3 W vs. DET) – to snap a four-game slide (0-4-0). * Dougie Hamilton scored his 26th goal since joining the Hurricanes on June 23, 2018 (26- 32—58), the second-most by a defenseman through their first 100 career regular-season games with the franchise behind Hartford’s Mark Howe (31-79—110). * Andrei Svechnikov (0-2—2), 19, has collected 55 career regular-season points (27-28—55). Among players to debut with the Hurricanes/Whalers, only three other teenagers have recorded as many points through their first 100 career regular-season games all with the franchise: Ron Francis (42-82—124), Sylvain Turgeon (55-46—101) and Jeff Skinner (38-43—81). * Rod Brind'Amour improved to 56-36-8 (120 points) since being named Hurricanes head coach on May 8, 2018. His 56 wins are the most by a head coach through their first 100 career regular-season games with the franchise. COYOTES SNAP CAPITALS’ STREAK, REACH 10-WIN MARK The Coyotes scored three goals in regulation – including two in the opening minute of the second period – en route to snapping the League-leading Capitals’ win streak at six games. Arizona (10-6-2, 22 points) reached the 10-win mark in its 18th contest, a plateau they hit in their 23rd game last season on Nov. 27, 2018 (10-11-2, 22 points). * The Coyotes scored twice in the opening minute of a period for the fifth time in franchise history and first since the club began play in Arizona. The other instances as the Winnipeg Jets were on April 6, 1985 (0:41), Oct. 9, 1981 (0:52), Oct. 25, 1983 (0:52) and Nov. 20, 1988 (0:53). * The Coyotes earned the win hours after John Chayka signed a long-term extension to remain general manager of the team. The 30-year-old has earned 108 career wins since beginning his tenure on May 15, 2016, the sixth-most by a general manager in Coyotes/Jets franchise history. St. Louis, which owns the longest active win streak in the NHL, can earn victories in eight or more consecutive contests for the fifth time in franchise history and first since a franchise-record 11- game run from Jan. 23 – Feb. 19, 2019. The Blues have earned a League-leading eight wins in one-goal games this season (8-3), including six during their seven-game run. * Aleksander Barkov (5-4—9 in 5 GP) aims to extend his goal streak to a career-high six games when the Panthers (8-4-5, 21 points) visit the Atlantic Division-leading Bruins (11-3-3, 25 points), who have yet to suffer a regulation loss at home this season (7-0-2). Barkov can become the second player in franchise history to record a goal streak of six or more games, joining Pavel Bure from March 11-23, 2001 (13-4—17 in 7 GP). Boston, meanwhile, can record a season-opening home point streak of 10 or more games for the sixth time in franchise history and first since 43 years ago in 1976-77 (11 GP; 10-0-1). * Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl ranks first in the NHL with 34 points this season (14-20—34 in 19 GP), including finding the score sheet in each of his last nine games (8-10—18). Draisaitl can record his third career double-digit point streak (14 GP: Feb. 13 – March 11, 2019; 11 GP: March 14 – April 4, 2017) and can become the sixth player in franchise history with three or more such runs, joining Wayne Gretzky (21x), Jari Kurri (8x), Paul Coffey (7x), Mark Messier (7x) and Glenn Anderson (3x). * Rangers forward Artemi Panarin (4-8—12 in 8 GP) can become the first player to record a point streak of nine or more games in his first season with the franchise since Scott Gomez from Dec. 6, 2007 – Jan. 2, 2008 (4-15—19 in 13 GP). .

    Carolina Hurricanes 2019-20 Season Preview CAROLINA HURRICANES: TEAM LOOK-AHEAD The Hurricanes enter 2019-20 looking to build on their run to the 2019 Conference Finals. After posting 46 wins and 99 points last season, a return to the playoffs would see Carolina qualify for postseason play in consecutive campaigns for the second time since the franchise relocated to Raleigh in 1997-98. The only time they did so was from 2000-01 to 2001-02. * Carolina also sets its sights on collecting at least 90 standings points in back-to-back seasons for the second time in Hurricanes/Whalers franchise history (2007-08—2008-09).
