  • A New Geography of Local Government in Cornwall
Centre for Geography and Environmental Science A new geography of local government: The changing role of Town and Parish Councils in Cornwall, UK JUNE 2019 Jane Wills June 2 Localism and the role of Town and Parish Councils in Cornwall INTRODUCTION This report summarises research that has been undertaken as part of a larger project led by Locality, the national network of community organisations. It comprises material that forms part of phase two of the work undertaken for Locality’s Commission on the Future of Localism. The Commission has gathered evidence and ideas about efforts to engage local people in decision making and to strengthen community, and the challenges faced in realising these ambitions. Locality published the first round of findings in a report entitled People Power in early 2018 (Locality, 2018a). This report highlighted the need for greater thought and more focused action in relation to developing and supporting local institutions, fostering better relationships and building local capacity, in order to unlock the ‘power of community’. Building on the ideas developed in that report, phase two of the Commission’s work has involved action research with four local authorities (Cornwall, Southwark, Stevenage and Wigan) to explore the importance of geo-institutional inheritance and culture, local experiences, and the outcomes of efforts to foster localism. A report that draws on the learning from all four cases will be published late in 2019. This report focuses solely on the findings from the research undertaken with Town and Parish Councils (TPCs) in Cornwall. Conducted in late 2018 and early 2019, the author interviewed 27 individuals in 18 separate interviews, including representatives from 11 TPCs as well as the County Officer of Cornwall’s Association of Local Councils (CALC).

St MINVER LOWLANDS PARISH COUNCIL MINUTES OF THE FULL MEETING HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBER, ROCK METHODIST CHURCH th ON MONDAY, 4 DECEMBER 2017 @ 7pm Present: Cllr. Gisbourne (Chairman) Cllr. Ms Boswell-Munday Cllr. Davis Cllr. Miss Gilbert Cllr. Mrs Morgan Cllr. Mrs Mould (CC/PC) Cllr. Richards Cllr. Mrs Webb Cllr. Miss Williams Mrs Thompson (Clerk) Minute AGENDA ITEMS Action Chairman’s Welcome and Public Forum – the Chairman opened the meeting and welcomed those present. Mr Tom Porter, Verto Homes, spoke regarding a planning application for land North of Rock Road, Rock (rear of Deer Park). He was asked about the access to the site and said that it was just possible for two vehicles to pass, but he wouldn’t encourage this. The plan is to create a priority waiting space at the top of the lane. Cllr. Mould pointed out that Members had been aware of this ‘solution’ previously but still felt the access was poor and if the owner of the neighbouring property were to rebuild his hedge it would be impossible to see the length of the lane. Cllrs. Davis and Morgan said it was misleading to cite the previous use of the land as a boatyard. The site was rarely used and vehicular movements were minimal. Mr Porter said the plan was for eight units. He estimated 30 vehicular move- ments a day, plus service lorries. Cllr. Mould showed Mr Porter the problem with holiday traffic and the impact it has on the access lane. A planning application will be submitted before Christmas. Mrs Rescorla was present in support of her application (Minute 162j/2017).

  • 1841 Census TRESIDDER and Variants
1841 Census TRESIDDER and Variants A census has been held in England and Wales every 10 years since 1801. The Censuses of 1801, 1811, 1821 and 1831 are mainly statistical and contain little information of Genealogical value. The 1841 Census was taken on 6 Jun 1841 and records details of all persons living in households across England and Wales. The census provides details of the names, ages, places of birth and occupations of those living in each household. Ages of those over the age of 15 were rounded down to the nearest 5. Places of birth record whether each person was born within the county, outside the county, or in foreign parts (Scotland, Ireland, etc.) . Occupations are heavily abbreviated e.g. ‘FS’ – Female Servant, ‘MS’ – Male Servant, ‘Ag Lab’ – Agricultural Labourer. An occupation of ‘Independent means’ indicates that the person is not working, and is not a pauper receiving poor relief. Relationships to the head of household are not identified in the 1841 census. The information presented below provides a transcription of entries for the TRES*D*R surname found in the 1841 Census. It also includes details of other persons living in the same household. Person Id’s are given to identify individuals where their families have been reconstructed and are represented within the family trees presented on the Trees section of the website https://tresidder.one-name.net/tng/index.php Sources • Ancestry – 1841 UK Census Collection • FindMyPast – 1841 England, Wales & Scotland Census This document has been prepared for display on the website www.tresidder.one-name.net.
