Rose Colored Blues” ANDREW COMBS TO RELEASE CANYONS OF MY MIND APRIL 7 GARDEN & GUN PREMIERES NEW TRACK “ROSE COLORED BLUES” U.S. EAST COAST TOUR STARTS MARCH 30, EUROPEAN TOUR TO FOLLOW “One of Nashville’s most poetically gifted young singer-songwriters.” NPR Music Andrew Combs is set to release his anticipated New West Records debut, Canyons Of My Mind, on April 7, 2017. Garden & Gun premiered album track “Rose Colored Blues” yesterday, which can be heard now Here, calling it “a freewheeling number that reframes the constant motion of touring—a common musician’s lament—in a positive light.” Combs adds, “It’s a romanticized version of being on the road. I wanted it to be lush, and to feel like you’re driving. The concept is something that’s always been very interesting to me: the whole idea of someone relishing their blues.” Combs will soon return to the road for a U.S. East Coast tour that begins next Thursday, March 30, before embarking on an extensive European tour throughout May. Please see below for full tour details with more dates to be announced soon. Inspired by the darker side of touring, the album single “Blood Hunters” previously premiered at Rolling Stone Country alongside a Ry Cox directed cinematic film, which can now be viewed/shared Here. The suspense-filled video tells the story of a hunter and his prey with nods to sci-fi and horror. Combs explains, “This one is about losing your mind. It came out in a haze of post tour blues; this being the 24-72 hours after you get home from tour in which you find yourself restless and somewhat deranged. The 180 degree flip in movement, conditions, and sleep patterns does this to me every time. Anyways, I lost it during one of these episodes. I thought everyone and their mother was out to get me, including myself.” Acknowledging the sonic breadth of Combs’ work, Rolling Stone Country states, “The song opens with Combs’ soothingly gorgeous vocals on haunting echo and spare electric guitar that crescendos into a fierce, Seattle-riffed fury. The musical gambit removes it even further away from the constraints of traditional country to forge a more experimental, rock-forward take on folk in the vein of Kevin Morby, Angel Olsen, Cass McCombs or even their forefather, Leonard Cohen.” Canyons Of My Mind was co-produced by Skylar Wilson (Justin Townes Earle, Caitlin Rose) & Jordan Lehning (Rodney Crowell, Caitlin Rose) and recorded at Battle Tapes Studio in East Nashville, TN. The 11-song set will be available digitally, on compact disc, and 150g vinyl. There is also an extremely limited edition to 100 LP copies available on Butter Cream vinyl with the album available for pre-order via PledgeMusic now. NPR Music announced the release with a video for the album track “Dirty Rain” that can be seen Here. Calling him “one of Nashville’s most poetically gifted young singer-songwriters,” they state “The subtle dissent Combs expresses in ‘Dirty Rain,’ and which surfaces throughout Canyons Of My Mind next to elegant love songs and mood pieces, speaks to his maturation as a songwriter. Andrew Combs possesses a voice that always provides a thrill; here, he makes sure it offers relevant substance, too.” A Dallas native now living near the same Nashville airport immortalised in the opening sequence of Robert Altman’s country music odyssey, Andrew Combs is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and heir to that 1975 film’s idea of the Nashville troubadour as a kind of musical monk. As a songwriter, Combs relies on meditative restraint rather than showy insistence to paint his canvases, a technique commensurate with his idea of nature as an overflowing spiritual wellspring. Combs refines the vulnerable vagabond persona he mastered on All These Dreams while pushing it beyond those boundaries, into a more pastoral realm aligned with artists like Nick Drake and Tim Buckley. The idea of the artist’s creative life as an ecosystem - one just as in need of cultivation and care as our own imperiled world - informs much of Canyons Of My Mind. Canyons Of My Mind Track Listing: 1. Heart of Wonder 2. Sleepwalker 3. Dirty Rain 4. Hazel 5. Rose Colored Blues 6. Better Way 7. Lauralee 8. Blood Hunters 9. Silk Flowers 10. Bourgeois King 11. • Dec1 Untitled REF GUIDE FINAL[2]
UNTITLED RESOURCE GUIDE SUGGESTIONS FOR ENGAGEMENT ABOUT UNTITLED Beginning with a reflection on the early AIDS epidemic, Untitled eschews a linear narrative to introduce a fractious timeline, moving from the sublime to the tragic and back again. By juxtaposing mainstream network news, activist footage, artists' work, and popular entertainment from the last turbulent decades, Untitled references regimes of power that precipitated a generation of AIDS and queer activism and continues today with international struggle and expression. In 2010, artist Jim Hodges was invited to give a lecture on the billboard project of Félix González-Torres at San Antonioʼs Artpace. He teamed up with fellow filmmakers Carlos Marques da Cruz and Encke King to create Untitled. Neither a portrait or a documentary about González- Torres, the film was an attempt to place the viewer “in his room,” that is to say, the filmmakers worked to create, for the viewer, an understanding of the influences and contexts within which González- UNTITLED Torres was working. In Hodges's words, “In this way, the framing of the artist can become a way to project any number of people, endlessly.” A Film by Untitled can therefore be considered to be as much about González- Jim Hodges, Carlos Marques da Cruz, and Encke King Torres and the AIDS crisis as it can be seen as grappling with the continuum of global dehumanization. PURPOSE OF THIS RESOURCE GUIDE In an effort to honor the sense of endlessness that Untitled suggests, this guide is a resource for provoking both public and private conversation. We have provided you with: • WORDS for engagement regarding HIV/AIDS, art, and culture • THOUGHTS to provoke dialogue • HIV/AIDS TIMELINE • INFORMATION about prevention and wellness • LINKS to extend the conversation CREDITS • Like the film, this Resource Guide hopes to raise more questions than it answers.

Tags: Music, Film, Inspiration, Process, Identity, Production, Multi-tasking. On being thoughtful about each decision you make Musician and composer Owen Pallett on maintaining a punk ethos in the world of chamber music, their fool-proof lyric writing method, revisiting old work, and negative inspiration. This is your first solo album in six years, but you’ve been busy in that time with different scores and arranging for other musicians. Did these projects take any creative or financial pressure off you when it came to making this record? Sometimes they do and sometimes they don’t really. Film scores are always kind of a bit of a crapshoot. If you score a film and it becomes a bit of a hit, then you do get residuals off it, so it is a good investment if you pick the right films. I notoriously have a bit of a bad nose for a good script. Back in 2008 or 2007, Gus Van Sant was asking me to possibly score Milk prior to studio involvement, and I remember reading the script and thinking it was bullshit. It won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, and I was like “Oh wow, I don’t really have a good nose for that kind of stuff.” Most of the production work and arrangement work that I do is a little more labor of love.

But not before she agreed to take a fl yer as an actress with a guest shot on the hit tele vi- sion sitcom Ugly Betty. It seemed like a harm- Aless diversion from all the drama and pressure in her life. She reasoned, how hard could it be to play herself? In the episode, Betty is dancing with her husband at their wedding when the couple is suddenly interrupted by Adele. Th ere is some harmless banter and the next thing we know Adele is up on stage singing the song “Right As Rain.” Adele realized that that kind of promotion in America was well worth the eff ort, but would later acknowledge in Vogue that the Ugly Betty experience cured her of any future acting aspirations. “I can’t watch it. I was so uncomfortable. I am the worst actress of all time.” But Adele was thankful for the momentary respite from Marc Shapiro her day job as singer-songwriter on the rise.

FILTER 46: Bone Poem: A Short Story By Cass McCombs and Albert Herter By Cass McCombs and Albert Herter on December 5, 2011 Illustrations by Albert Herter Carmine itched his temple in the direction of the anxiety-producing event, a man in spandex stretching his crotch in a beam of sunlight. A dog howled, the honk of a horn. He who tamed the insects. Carmine was waiting for the main capital woman, who said she’d be wearing pearl glasses on a chain. He crossed his legs to produce a pain in his hip, which usually grounded him for 10 minutes. The trees were a mixture of margarita, neon lime and paradise green. Bullies on bicycles, dolls pushing strollers of dolls pushing strollers of...suddenly, the puncture of high heels. Scenery bushes rattling fever again. She was his scenery, no, programmer. Feeding him new formulas, after the expiration date, sucked dry. Algorithms get juiced, around the block, worn out, like book hookers. She sat on the bench next to him, an envelope tickling his eye. She made her fingers dance up his arm like a spider, which, upon reaching his shoulder, slowly rested one black-tipped foot on his antitragus. He unfolded his legs. She lowered her glasses to reveal two cold black caves emanating vapors. Ten minutes later, Carmine and the main capital woman were driving downtown in his pickup truck to score. She was a friend of a friend, Carmine assumed she’d take a cut in one way or another, a cut from a source Carmine assumed was already cut with lactose or spillover from a fictional price tag, or both.

  • THE LYDIAN GALE PARR (Draft)
1 THE LYDIAN GALE PARR An incantation by Karinne Keithley Syers [email protected] THIS WORK IS IN PROGRESS SETTING: To be performed as an oratorio in some kind of ornate interior chamber, perhaps an embroidered tent. The event could also be thought of as a kind of Homeric TV opera. Possibly the layers of the event – the speech, the dancing, the images – are separated out in time, so that the live event is dedicated to listening, followed by photographic documentation received given after the performance, perhaps even sent in the mail, of the dances, and the images invoked. PERFORMERS: PART ONE: Two speakers PART TWO: All (dancing) PART THREE: The Lydian Gale Parr PART FOUR: present: a guide, the letter speakers as micro-chorus; recorded: a narrator, a correspondent PART FIVE: All as The Lydian Gale Parr CODA: All, led by micro-chorus 2 PART ONE: LETTER (The American) Performed by a pair of emissaries, speaking in almost-unison. Readings of the letter might be performed with a minute choreography of rib cage mobility, breath, chest collapse and expanse, recollection of épaulement (codified options for shoulder placement in ballet) or other classical or invented techniques of posture, lean, glance aversion, blinking, and actions of the lips that don’t involve speech. A double slash (//) in the middle of the line indicates two simultaneous lines to be spoken slightly differently by each of the speakers, according to whether they are standing on the right or left. Where the double slash is broken between the end of one line and the beginning of the next, those two lines are spoken simultaneously.

Now their 6-year romantic relationship is put to the test when Dan receives an attractive job offer from the record label with whom he interns, and he must choose between a move forward and a future with Mel. Growth and temptation happen – but will their relationship remain part of their future? Writer/director Hannah Fidell explores the struggles of young love as it begins to face the next steps into adulthood. Taissa Farmiga and Ben Rosenfield give warm, genuine performances as Mel and Dan, alongside Lindsay Burdge (star of Fidell’s A TEACHER) as a colleague of Dan’s who entices him in more ways than one. HANNAH FIDELL DISCUSSES 6 YEARS I wrote 6 Years focusing on the relationship of two young adults. Who hasn’t had a first love? And who hasn’t gone through a breakup with said first love? (for those of you who are married to that first person...please ignore…) More than anything though, I modeled Dan and Mel’s world on my group of friends in college. Although, the fighting and the physical violence, that was pure fiction. The script was in great hands with Taissa and Ben.

DREAMS My Journey with Multiple Sclerosis By Kristie Salerno Kent DREAMS: MY JOURNEY WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS. Copyright © 2013 by Acorda Therapeutics®, Inc. All rights reserved. Printed in the United States of America. Author’s Note I always dreamed of a career in the entertainment industry until a multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis changed my life. Rather than give up on my dream, following my diagnosis I decided to fight back and follow my passion. Songwriting and performance helped me find the strength to face my challenges and help others understand the impact of MS. “Dreams: My Journey with Multiple Sclerosis,” is an intimate and honest story of how, as people living with MS, we can continue to pursue our passion and use it to overcome denial and find the courage to take action to fight MS. It is also a story of how a serious health challenge does not mean you should let go of your plans for the future. The word 'dreams' may end in ‘MS,’ but MS doesn’t have to end your dreams. It has taken an extraordinary team effort to share my story with you. This book is dedicated to my greatest blessings - my children, Kingston and Giabella. You have filled mommy's heart with so much love, pride and joy and have made my ultimate dream come true! To my husband Michael - thank you for being my umbrella during the rainy days until the sun came out again and we could bask in its glow together. Each end of our rainbow has two pots of gold… our precious son and our beautiful daughter! To my heavenly Father, thank you for the gifts you have blessed me with.
