In recent years remarkable progress has been made towards the understanding of proposed hallmarks of cancer development and treatment. Anticancer drug developments from natural resources are ventured throughout the world. Venoms of several animal species including snake, scorpion, frog, spider etc. and their active components in the form of peptides, enzymes etc. have shown promising therapeutic potential against cancer. In the present review, the anticancer potential of venoms as well as their biochemical derivatives from some vertebrates like snake or frog or some venomous arthropods like scorpion, honey bee, wasps, beetles, caterpillars, ants, centipedes and spiders has been discussed. Some of these molecules are in the clinical trials and may find their way towards anticancer drug development in the near future. The recognition that cancer is fundamentally a genetic disease has opened enormous opportunities for preventing and treating the disease and most of the molecular biological based treatment are cost effective.

Nevertheless, there are few studies on the diversity of social wasps occurring in this region. This study presents a list of social wasps (Hymenoptera, Vespidae, Polistinae) collected actively with attractive bait in three rainforest fragments in Acre. A total of 758 wasps belonging to 11 genera and 36 species were collected. Nineteen species were new distribution records for Acre and three others were new records for Brazil. Based on our results, further investigations should lead to a significant increase in Polistinae diversity in this region, producing information for biogeographic studies and management of natural areas. Because for scorpion treatment a polyvalent antivenom is use in Iran, and some time it failed to treatment, for solve this problem govement decide to produce regional antivenom. Scorpions were captured at day and night time using ruck rolling and Ultra Violet methods during 2019. Then specimens transferred to a 75% alcohol-containing plastic bottle. Finally the specimens under a stereomicroscope using a valid identication key were identied. Distribution maps were introduced using GIS 10.4. Results: A total of 111 scorpion samples were captured from the province, all belonging to the Buthidae family, including Mesobuthus eupeus (97.3%), Orthochirus farzanpayi (0.9%) and Mesobuthus caucasicus (1.8%) species.

Here, we amplified cDNA of MesoLys-C, a c-type lysozyme from the most common scorpion in Khuzestan Province, Southern Iran. Methods: Scorpions of Mesobuthus eupeus were collected from the Khuzestan Province. Using RNXTM solu- tion, the total RNA was extracted from the twenty separated venom glands. cDNA was synthesized with extract- ed total RNA as template and modified oligo(dT) as primer. In order to amplify cDNA encoding a lysozyme C, semi-nested RT-PCR was done with the specific primers. Follow amplification, the fragment was sequenced. Results: Sequence determination of amplified fragment revealed that MesoLys-C cDNA had 438 bp, encoding for 144 aa residues peptide with molecular weight of 16.702 kDa and theoretical pI of 7.54. A putative 22-amino- acids signal peptide was identified. MesoLys-C protein was composed of one domain belonged to c-type lyso- syme/alphalactalbumin.

  • A TEST of Bombus Terrestris COCOON and OTHER COMMON METHODS for NEST INITIATION in B
DOI: 10.2478/v10289-012-0022-x Vol. 56 No. 2 2012 Journal of Apicultural Science 37 A TEST OF Bombus terrestris COCOON AND OTHER COMMON METHODS FOR NEST INITIATION IN B. lapidarius AND B. hortorum Alena Buč ánková1,2, Vladimír Ptáč ek1 1Agricultural Research, Ltd. Troubsko, Czech Republic 2Research Institute for Fodder Crops, Ltd. Troubsko, Czech Republic e-mail: [email protected] Received 11 April 2012; accepted 21 November 2012 Summary Several methods for stimulating nest initiation (particularly the use of the Bombus terrestris cocoon) in queen bumblebees of the species B. lapidarius and B. hortorum were compared. For B. lapidarius, it was determined that the percentage success rate for establishing the fi rst egg cell on a cocoon of B. terrestris is similar to that on a conspecifi c cocoon. Nest establishment, however, was signifi cantly slower on the cocoon of B. terrestris. Moreover, it was determined that queens of B. lapidarius are able to initiate a nest without hibernation. Queens hibernated in the laboratory displayed a similar percentage success rate in establishing an egg cell during stimulation with the cocoon of B. terrestris as did the outdoor queens, but the lab queens established it signifi cantly more slowly. Queens of B. hortorum did not incubate the cocoon of B. terrestris, nor did they establish an egg cell on it. Keywords: bumblebee, cocoon, colony initiation, Bombus terrestris, Bombus lapidarius, Bombus hortorum. INTRODUCTION (1985) and Ptáček (2000); the method Bumblebees are important pollinators of an added worker, later mentioned by of many agricultural crops. During the Alford (1975); and the use of interspecies past century, great advances have been cooperation to initiate nesting of the queen made in research concerning bumblebee and rearing of a brood (Ono et al., 1994).
