Chemical Free Natural Oven Cleaner GrowCreateSave.com Chemical free natural oven cleaner can be easily made at home from pantry ingredients. Try this method and breathe easy as you clean the most difficult baked on mess in your oven. A Dose of Reality There are no silver bullets to easily clean ovens naturally, but there is a combination of methods that can make the job more bearable. If you are a perfectionist and would like to see your oven sparkling clean at the end then it would be best to invest in a gas mask and buy the chemical alternative. However, with a little time and a little elbow grease you can clean most spills out of the oven without the need for chemicals. The easiest way to keep your oven clean naturally is to clean spills as soon as they happen but this isn’t always possible. Tools and Materials Needed Dishwashing Liquid Metal Spatula or Scraper Non-scratch Scour Steel Wool Screwdriver (For removing the inside glass from the door if it can be removed) Chemical Free Paste Vinegar 2 Cups Bicarbonate of Soda (Baking Soda) 2 Cups Salt Method First take out the racks then place them in a large sink or tray of warm water with a good squirt of dishwashing liquid. Leave to soak. Next use the metal spatula or scraper to scrape off any baked-on bits that are a little loose on the bottom of the oven then discard. Turn the oven on for 5 minutes while you make the paste then turn it off before applying the paste to the inside. In a medium bowl mix together the baking soda and salt then add enough vinegar to make a paste that can be easily spread. The vinegar will froth up so it would be wise to add a little at a time. Spread the paste over the inside of the oven and inside the oven door being careful of the thermostat and the fan holes at the back. Concentrate the paste on the base where most of the mess is. Leave to soak for at least a few hours but overnight is best. Cleaning the Racks The easiest way to clean the racks is with steel wool. After letting them soak for an hour or two rub the steel wool along the length of each spoke. Most of the baked-on grease will easily dislodge. Wipe over with a sponge, rinse then leave to dry. Be aware that steel wool may scratch the chrome. It is best to try a small section first then see if you are happy with the result. Cleaning Out the Oven First use a spatula to remove the bulk of the paste. Moisten a non-scratch scour then scrub the remaining paste over the surface of the oven to dislodge the baked on grease. You may need to use the scraper again on the base of the oven. Enamel will scratch so you will need to be careful. For stubborn baked on grease try soaking it with warm soapy dishwater then try scraping again. Wipe out the oven with clean water then use a 50/50 vinegar to water mix in a spray bottle to finish cleaning the inside surface. This will remove any remaining baking soda. This is also a good mix for cleaning windows. Cleaning the Oven Door Use a non-scratch scour to clean the glass. If you find this isn’t doing the job try removing the glass from the door. Some ovens the glass will be secured on either side with a screw. If the glass can’t be removed you can clean it where it is. Try soaking the glass with warm dishwater then scrub again. If the baked-on grease still won’t budge try a small section with steel wool or a glass scraper. The steel wool and scraper may scratch the glass and should only be used as a last resort. If you are happy with this section then lightly go over the rest. Spray with the vinegar spray then wipe clean. Replace the glass if you removed it then stand back and admire your hard work. Remember, try not to be a perfectionist with your oven. You can spend all day cleaning it and never get it perfectly clean. Tip Once you have finished cleaning your oven try to get into a routine of cleaning spills as soon as they happen as this will greatly reduce the elbow grease needed the next time you clean your oven naturally. .
