On 12 April 1999 the GFA applied for membership of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations). This immediately drew a hostile reception from the Spanish Football Federation and the Spanish Government. After a long legal challenge, at the UEFA Congress held London on 24 May 2013, Gibraltar finally became the 54th member of UEFA and the smallest UEFA nation by population, with a team in the UEFA Champions League from the 2014/15 season. Three years later, on May 13th 2016, Gibraltar was granted FIFA membership so they can enter for the World Cup, playing their first qualification game on September 6th 2016 at home to Greece. Gibraltar took part in the UEFA Nations League in 2018 and our club sides have enjoyed participation in both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League competitions in recent years. 04 COMMERCIAL BROCHURE OF THE LINCOLN RED IMPS LINCOLN RED IMPS NEW DOMESTIC LEAGUE STRUCTURE This year has seen the introduction of a new League system in which both the Premier Division and Second Division has been merged. The League will consist of three rounds in total. In the first round, teams shall play each other once. After the first round has been completed, the League shall split into two groups. The best seven ranked teams shall play the remaining two rounds in a group called The Championship Group. The remaining teams shall play the remaining two rounds in a separate group called The Challenge Group. The Gibtelecom Rock Cup will continue to run alongside the League competition. Currently the Gibraltar National League holds three slots in European Competitions. The League winners will compete in the UEFA Champions League, the League runner-up will compete in the UEFA Europa League, whilst the third European slot goes to the Rock Cup winners. There is also a Women’s League and Cup competition. With the abolishment of the Reserve League in 2017, the GFA introduced an Under 23 Intermediate League in 2018. • The Pillars of Hercules
Zoence Information Sheet The Pillars of Hercules The Pillars of Hercules symbolise the essential polarity of life and of the universe, by means of which all things are able to manifest. Everything that exists has polarity. Polarity is also a trinity, because as soon as there is polarity there is the relationship between the two poles: hence the idea of the Holy Trinity that is yet One Being. The Pillars of Hercules are known also as The Pillars of Enoch, The Pillars of Atlas, The Pillars of Solomon, The Twin Pillars or The Great Pillars. The latter is the Freemasonic name for the freestanding twin pillars, Jachin and Boaz that stand at the entrance to Solomon’s Temple (and are the entrance). The passageway between the pillars, known also as a gateway, signifies the relationship between the two—the third aspect of the Trinity. If a person stands in that position, or moves through the gateway, he/she is deemed to represent the third aspect or ‘pillar’. In Solomon’s Temple the altar of incense in the heart of the temple also signifies the third or Middle Pillar, Mahabone. The twin pillars signify right-left polarity. They can also signify front- behind polarity. They represent vertical polarity as well, each having a base and a capitol (the poles), with a column linking the two. Moreover, being free-standing, they stand on the ground and soar into the air, joining or mediating between heaven and earth. In the classical myth, Atlas (whose name means ‘pillar’) had to stand as the trinity of pillars, holding apart heaven and earth.

  • German Football Strategy
ESTO REPORT: GERMAN FOOTBALL STRATEGY AND THE STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE OF SYNTHETIC TURF: A BLUEPRINT FOR FOOTBALL ASSOCIATIONS TO CONSIDER SYNTHETIC TURF AS A LONG TERM DEVELOPMENT AND PERFORMANCE STRATEGY. BACKGROUND ON THE GERMAN FOOTBALL STRATEGY Germany lifting the World Cup this summer was the product of over a decade of careful planning and innovation by the DFB (German Football Association). It all began with an embarrassing performance in the World Cup 1998, with a 3:0 loss to Croatia in the quarter-final, and then at the Euro 2000, when the “Mannschaft” failed to go through the group stages and finished last in their group. Immediately following this disappointing Euro 2000, the country decided that the only way to redeem themselves and regain their top level was to tackle the problem from the bottom-up and therefore focused on the developing the game at grass roots level. The upshot of unsatisfactory results in international competitions was that the DFB decided to invest all their time and resources in the development of young talent by improving accessibility and by focusing on a technical and tactical approach. Therefore, in 2001, the first compulsory requirement the DFB imposed on all 36 clubs in the 1st and 2nd German divisions was the integration of youth academies within the structure of the clubs. Then from 2002/2003 onwards, The German football association started implementing football bases all over the country, with the aim to allow every player access to the best coaching. At the moment, there are 366 of these DFB bases throughout Germany (see map on the right), and are thus within easy reach of all players.

  • The Red Plaques of Gibraltar
THE RED PLAQUES OF GIBRALTAR This document has been compiled by: Julia Harris Contact on: [email protected] Date completed: May 2014 THANKS TO: - Gail Francis-Tiron for her help when needed - Pepe Rosado for reading this and making his valued comments - Claire Montado for giving me some of the older photos to use - My parents for their gentle ‘reminders’ to get this finished and proof reading! INTRODUCTION: These cast iron red plaques were placed around Gibraltar between 1959 and 1975 in possibly the first attempt to present the rocks history to visitors and residents. They were the work of the Gibraltar Museum Committee which at the time was under the chairmanship of the Hon. Mrs Dorothy Ellicott O.B.E., J.P. (see appendix III). Modern information boards will perhaps replace them (see ‘Future’ section below), but I hope this will not happen. They are their own piece of Gibraltar’s history. When I first noticed and started taking photos of these red plaques I looked for a record of how many there were to find. After speaking to The Heritage Trust and Tourist Board I was told there was not an up to date, completed list. So, here is mine, consisting of 49 plaques, some in situ, some not. There could be more around the rock, or in storage, as there are details of up to 53 in a document attached, dated October 1977, (see Appendix I). From this list there are 43 that I have found and are on mine, another 10 I did not find (some I know have been removed from site with no details of where they are stored) and there are 4 that I found that are not on it.
