Housed at the Wittliff Collections at Texas State University, the On Story Archive collects, preserves, and shares oral histories from film, television, and media creators that detail the process of bringing their stories to the screen. Coupled with supplementary resources such as transcriptions, permissions, and photographs, this unique curation is composed entirely of evergreen content, as all discussions address universal ideas about the art of storytelling. ON STORY ARCHIVE: A Brief History October 1994 The inaugural Austin Film Festival took place 2009 The idea for the On Story Archive was born April 2011 AFF debuted the On Story TV show on KUT, editing footage from its internal archive of November 2012 preserved AV content The On Story Podcast launched on iTunes October 2013 The first book, On Story: Screenwriters and Their Craft, was released February 2015 The On Story Radio show debuted on KUT June 2015 AFF signed Deed of Gift & Memorandum of Intent to move and donate the On Story Archive to the Wittliff Collections December 2015 The first annual donation was made to the On Story Archive at the Wittliff Collections at March 2016 Texas State University The Archive and Wittliff Collections presented a Lonesome Dove Cast and Crew Reunion event January 2017 The On Story Podcast reached 1,000,000 downloads December 2018 The fourth batch of physical & digital assets were donated to the Wittliff Collections ON STORY ARCHIVE: The Writers Festival THE 2018 AUSTIN FILM FESTIVAL & WRITERS CONFERENCE AT-A-GLANCE 30,000+ 250 150 185 attendees panelists panels films OCT The annual Festival & Conference is woven together in eight 39% 24% days of story-driven screenings and women minority panels that avoid lectures in preference to panelists panelists professionally led, workshop-style experiences. It serves to shine a light on media visionaries who, through the transformative power of storytelling, boldly reflect the best of humanity and, subsequently, invigorate and instruct the next generation of artists. ON STORY ARCHIVE: Who It Serves A GLIMPSE INSIDE THE ON STORY ARCHIVE AT THE WITTLIFF COLLECTIONS With an unflinching commitment, AFF embodies the belief that people of all walks of life should have access to, and are afforded, the same experience that its annual Festival attendees receive. It is this pledge, partially born of non-profit roots, to be an egalitarian fount of knowledge and discovery through the On Story Archive. SCHOLARS AFF's partnership with the Wittliff Collections is designed to kinetically and creatively engage both academic and non-academic populations and STUDENTS welcomes visitors from all over the country, free of charge, to survey and study its comprehensive collection. Since February 2017, FILMMAKERS when the Wittliff Collections website went live, there have been thousands of visitors from FILM ENTHUSIASTS all over the world.
