Anglophiles, Rejoice! APRIL 2016 New Seasons of Drama Await Is there a void in your heart that British darling Downton Abbey used to fill? Look no further — WLIW has the cure for all your Anglophile woes. Mysteries, intricate love stories, and drama for days, these programs step up to the plate and deliver suspense and entertainment for the masses. The Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad is back investigating the Metropolitan Police’s cold cases for the final season of New Tricks (Fridays at 10pm beginning April 1). From bodies in the basement to skeletons in the swimming pool, the team must pull together more than ever to uncover the city’s long buried secrets and bring justice to the streets of London. The improbable crime-fighting team of Reverend Sidney Chambers (James Norton) and Inspector Geordie Keating (Robson Green) continue to bring justice, spiritual nourishment and matchmaking to 1950s England in the second season of Grantchester (Mondays at 10pm beginning April 4). With the backdrop of post-World War II Britain, the duo tackles sexual assault, homicide, a haunted stable and more, including Sidney’s unresolved love life. Vera Death in Paradise Kind-hearted loner Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope continues to deliver answers to the most baffling of cases in the sixth season of Vera (Saturdays at 9:40pm premiering April 9). Academy Award-nominee and BAFTA Award-winner Brenda Blethyn portrays the brilliant murder investigator, who has a tendency to become obsessed with her job, as she deals with intrigue and tragedy throughout Northeast England. Death in Paradise brings warmth and wit to the lineup in a fifth season (Mondays at 8pm premiering April 11). Expat DI Humphrey Goodman is finally making himself at home on the beautiful island of Saint Marie, but while his deductive powers are valuable and unmatched in solving cases, they fall short in the department of romance. Will Humphrey be able to solve the complexities of dating and Saint Marie’s most perplexing and captivating mysteries? Stay tuned!
