VENUGOPAL: Will the Minister of INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING be pleased to state: (a) Whether the Directorate of Audio Visual Publicity (DAVP) has suspended 51 newspapers from getting any Government advertisement for two months; (b) if so, the details thereof; (c) whether the majority of these newspapers had been suspended after the Press Council of India found them to have indulged in either paid news or breaching the norms of journalistic ethics; and (d) if so, the details thereof? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING {COL RAJYAVARDHAN RATHORE (Retd.)} (a) to (d) Yes, Madam. After censure by Press Council of India (PCI) for indulging in paid news or for violation of various Norms of Journalistic Conduct, Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) has suspended the empanelment of 51 newspapers on 13.9.2017, disqualifying them from getting any Government advertisements for two months, i.e. for the period 13.9.2017 to 12.11.2017 under clause 25 (d) of the Print Media Advertisement Policy of Government of India – 2016.
