At the same time efforts are made to preserve national identity of the member countries as well as their regional diversity. Recognition of the diversity of regions, their distinct characteristics and comparative advantages in a unified Europe is of utmost importance for the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union. The tourism has been recognized as a strategic strongpoint in the Adriatic part of Croatia, whereas the Panonnian region of Croatia does not have a clear vision of that. It is therefore vital to explore and determine the underlying guidelines for the development. Since they have always been connected with the practical side of life, the polytechnics are the institutions responsible for the future development. In the last ten years since the establishment of the Polytechnic of Pozega, the development has been focusing on education and the application of knowledge in practice, which has distinguished the Polytechnic as an initiator and an actual development factor. International Conference “Vallis Aurea“ is international platform to achieve this objectives. It will serve as a permanent platform for an interdisciplinary approach to resolving issues related to regional development. It covers various areas ranging from theory to practical application and continued promotion based on inventiveness and regional particularities. This conference is the first step in our interdisciplinary attempt to organize long- lasting international cooperation. All the papers presented at the conference and published in the Proceedings meet the following criteria: a) The paper is reviewed by the editor for general acceptability for publishing. b) If it has been evaluated as appropriate two reviewers are chosen for double-blind review process. c) Based on their recommendations, the editor decides to accept, revise or reject the paper. On behalf of the Organizers we would like to thank all the authors on their high- quality papers as well as all the reviewers on their considerate review. Prethodno priopćenje DOI: 10.22586/pp.v55i0.87 Danijel Vojak * Neven Kovačev ** Th eresian and Josephine reform eff orts in the regulation of the socioeconomic position of Roma in Croatia and Slavonia Th e history of the Roma population on the Croatian area was marked by the periods in which the Roma faced the impact of the repressive and assimilatory policy of the state and local authorities towards them. Th e period of the reign of Maria Th eresa and Joseph II was marked by such a policy, as they issued numerous decrees on Roma. Th e main goal of this policy was to reform the status of the Roma population by ordering them the forced sedentarization, the prohibition of their identity, e.g. their name, the use of their language and customs, doing their traditional professions and so on. As the result of such a policy, the Roma should have become the integrated part of the Habsburg society. Th e similar enlightened policy toward the Roma was conducted by the other European rulers as well. Th is paper is based on the research of the archival fonds of the Croatian State Archives, as well as the analysis of the relevant literature.     Empire Displaced: Ottoman-Habsburg Forced Migration and the Near Eastern Crisis, 1875-1878 Jared Manasek Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY 2013 ©2013 Jared Manasek All Rights Reserved ABSTRACT Empire Displaced: Ottoman-Habsburg Forced Migration and the Near Eastern Crisis, 1875-1878 Jared Manasek This dissertation examines the case of 250-300,000 largely Orthodox Christian refugees who fled Ottoman Bosnia and Hercegovina for the Habsburg Empire during the uprisings of 1875-1878. The violence during this period started out as a peasant uprising, but over the course of three years cascaded into revolts and violence across the Ottoman Balkans and led to a major European diplomatic crisis. The Treaty of Berlin of 1878, which ended the violence, reconfigured the political geography of the Balkans, making the former Ottoman provinces of Montenegro, Romania, and Serbia independent; giving a sweeping autonomy to Bulgaria, and handing over to Austria-Hungary the administration of a nominally Ottoman Bosnia and Hercegovina. Refugees played an under-appreciated role in the international and domestic politics of the period, and this dissertation argues that forced migration was in fact one of the key considerations of Great Power diplomacy. Forced migration offered a means to measure degree of violence, and control over population movement offered a way for empires to lay claims to legitimacy. In a similar manner, philanthropists and international humanitarians used forced migration to build and advocate for their own civic spheres. The dissertation argues that during this period, the modern category of “refugee” was defined as states developed processes to manage refugees domestically and to create international policies for refugee aid and return.

They manifest themselves in archi­ tecture, sculpture and painting, or in combinations or extensions thereof. The H borderlines are sometimes fu:a:y, but this is not too important. The repertoire of forms contained by a work of fine art is the same, regardless of which branch of fine arts is involved. Fine art forms communicate, i. e. they bear a message. They are not just any visual forms, but forms with content. If there is a message, there must be a system of recog­ nizable signs that we read in order to receive the message. In verbal arts things may ap­ pear simple and straightforward. We just have to learn how to read, meaning, we must know the alphabet, a system of visual signs which make up a language and its written communications.

Ruralni turizam je turizam budućnosti, koji ne samo da utječe na razvoj ruralnog područja i lokalne ekonomije, već pomaže očuvanju baštine, tradicije, običaja i kulturnog identiteta. Najznačajniji pružatelji usluga ruralnog turizma u Požeško-slavonskoj županiji su oni koji ponudama i uslugama održavaju baštinu i tradiciju ovoga kraja te pružaju jedinstven doživljaj posjetiteljima.
