NYC GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE 2019 Annual Report TABLE OF CONTENTS 2019 Annual Report INTRODUCTION PG 01 IMPLEMENTATION UPDATE PG 03 GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE MAINTENANCE PG 40 RELATED INITIATIVES PG 42 ADAPTIVE MANAGEMENT PG 47 LOOKING AHEAD TO 2020 PG 49 EXHIBIT A - PROGRAM SPENDING AND BUDGET PG 51 EXHIBIT B - COMMUNITY OUTREACH PG 52 EXHIBIT C - 2015 CONTINGENCY PLAN PG 54 EXHIBIT D - WHAT IS A “GREENED ACRE”? PG 55 ACRONYMS PG 56 2019 GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE ANNUAL REPORT STORMWATER GREENSTREET, QUEENS The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is excited to present the 2019 Green Infrastructure Annual Report. The Annual Report provides an update on the NYC Green Infrastructure Program (or the “Program”), including all of the achievements and advancements through 2019, and outlines what is in store for 2020. Previous Annual Reports and the Green Infrastructure Plan can be found on DEP’s green infrastructure webpage. Readers should note that at the time of the publication of this report, the City is faced with significant resource uncertainties due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At this time, DEP is still determining the specific impacts to the projects listed in the following pages. Green infrastructure provides more than just stormwater management for New Yorkers. While the primary goal of the Program is to reduce combined sewer overflows (CSO) into New York Harbor in a cost-effective way, the distributed Hi!projects also provide community and environmental benefits to the City’s neighborhoods and residents. These “co-ben- efits” include increased urban greening, urban heat island reduction, and more habitat for birds and pollinators around the City.
