PRODUCTION BIOS

GERALD W. ABRAMS (Executive Producer) – Gerald W. Abrams began his television career in 1965, with WCBS TV as an account executive, and worked his way up through CBS Television national sales to head the West Coast Sales Department in 1971. Shortly thereafter, he was appointed General Sales Manager of KCBS, the CBS-owned station in Los Angeles.

In 1973, Abrams joined The Jozak Company as Vice President of Creative Affairs, and segued into his producing career by producing a GE Theater Presentation "The Secret Life of John Chapman." While with Jozak, a few of the projects Abrams executive-produced were "James Dean, Portrait Of A Friend," "Red Alert," the Emmy ® award-winning "The Defection Of Simas Kudirka," starring Alan Arkin, and the ABC series "Julie Farr, M.D."

Abrams formed his own company, Cypress Point Productions, in 1978. Through Cypress Point, he executive-produced "Flesh And Blood," starring John Cassavetes and Denzel Washington, "Letters From Frank," starring Art Carney, "The Gift" starring Glenn Ford, "Act Of Love," starring Ron Howard and Mickey Rourke, "Berlin Tunnel 21," starring Richard Thomas, "Marian Rose White," starring Katherine Ross and Valerie Perri, the CBS series "Cutter To Houston," starring Alec Baldwin, "Found Money," starring Dick Van Dyke and Sid Caesar, "Scorned And Swindled," starring Tuesday Weld, and the Emmy award-winning "Florence Nightingale," "A Woman Called Golda," starring Ingrid Bergman for Operation Primetime.

In addition to his television credits, Abrams was also the executive producer of "Hearts Of Fire," a theatrical film for Lorimar, starring Bob Dylan and Rupert Everett.

Abrams formed Phoenix Entertainment Group with Gerald Isenberg in July of 1985. In February of 1989, Phoenix was acquired by The Hearst Corporation and renamed Hearst Entertainment Productions where he served as the Co-Chairman.

Abrams was also the producer of the four-hour miniseries, "Monte Carlo," shot entirely on location in France, and executive-producer of "A Father's Revenge," for ABC, which was filmed in Berlin, starring Brian Dennehy and Joanna Cassidy. Also in '89, he executive-produced the two-hour movie for ABC and London Weekend Television, "Jekyll & Hyde,” starring Michael Caine and Cheryl Ladd, filmed on location in England, which was followed by "Daughter Of Darkness," starring , which was filmed in Budapest, Hungary, for CBS. Abrams also executive produced “Family of Spies” the five-hour mini-series for CBS starring Powers Boothe and Lesley Ann Warren for which she was nominated for an Emmy.

Abrams served on the Board of Directors of the Hollywood Radio and Television Society from 1982 to 1984, and has remained a very active alumnus of The Pennsylvania State University, having served on the Alumni Council and on the Board of Advisors to The College of Communications. In 1984, he was made an Alumni Fellow and received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1986. Additionally, he serves on the Alumni Board of Directors for The College of Communications. The Caucus for Television Producers, Writers & Directors honored Abrams with the Producer’s Award for 2004.

Abrams executive produced “Black and Blue,” based on Pulitzer Prize winning author Anna Quindlen’s best selling novel, as well as “Nuremberg,” a four-hour mini-series for Turner Network Television starring Alec Baldwin and Brian Cox, which was nominated for both the Golden Globes and , and “Second Honeymoon” starring Roma Downey and Tim Matheson for CBS. Following the critical success of those films, Abrams executive produced the Hallmark Channel’s “A Christmas Visitor.”

In 2003, Abrams executive produced “44 Minutes,” the FX Network’s highest rated show in its nine-year history as well as the Emmy winning “Out of the Ashes” for Showtime starring Christine Lahti and directed by Joseph Sargent.

In March of 2004, ABC aired “The Mystery of ” executive produced by Abrams and based on Suzanne Finstad’s biography of Natalie Wood. Additional credits include “See Arnold Run” about the historic California recall election for A&E. In 2005, Abrams produced “Four Minutes” starring Christopher Plummer, chronicling Roger Bannister’s feat of being the first to run one mile in under four minutes and are developing “The Jack Johnson Story” a look at the flamboyant life of the world’s first black heavyweight boxing champion.

Gerald’s wife, Carol Abrams, is a Peabody Award winning producer and co-author of “Shared Memories.” They have two children, J.J. Abrams, who has written and produced the motion picture “Regarding Henry,” wrote “Forever Young,” “Armageddon,” directed “Mission Impossible III,” and is the creator and Executive Producer of the television series “Lost”, “Felicity,” “What About Brian” and “Alias,” and Tracy Abrams, a screenwriter who has written for series television.

TOM WERTHEIMER (Executive Producer) – Tom Wertheimer received a B.A. degree from Princeton University cum laude in 1960 and an LL.B. degree from Columbia Law School in 1963. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves. From 1964 to 1972, he worked for ABC, where he became Vice President of Business Affairs and oversaw the business side of ABC’s made-for-TV movie division under Barry Diller.

In 1972, Wertheimer went to work for MCA, Inc., where he rose to Executive Vice President, Director and member of the three-person Executive Committee (together with Sid Sheinberg and Lew Wasserman). While at MCA, he oversaw production of such network shows as “Law & Order,” “Murder, She Wrote,” “Coach” and “Northern Exposure” and supervised the development and production of the HBO series “Dream On.” In 1991, he took on the additional roles of Chairman of the Television and Home Entertainment Groups.

Shortly after Seagram acquired MCA/Universal, Wertheimer resigned. Since 1996, he has been a non-exclusive consultant to Universal (now NBC/Universal) and others. At NBC/Universal, he was responsible for feature film licensing to broadcast and cable networks. He has now completed this work and is pursuing his own projects as an Executive Producer and investor.

Wertheimer currently serves on the boards of KCRW (public radio station) Foundation and Research To Prevent Blindness. He and his wife, Ellie, reside in Santa Monica, CA, and have two children, Doug and Susie, and six grandchildren.

SUSAN MURDOCH (Executive Producer) - Susan Murdoch is President of QVF Inc. and Vice President of Pebblehut, one of the major producers of film and television product in Canada. Over the past 25 years, Murdoch produced or production managed numerous feature and television movies as well as more than 200 hours of episodic television including the “Nero Wolfe Mysteries” for A&E, “Veritas” for ABC, “The City” for CTV, “Kung Fu – The Legend Continues” for Warner Bros, “War of the Worlds” for Paramount Television, and “Adderly” for CBS. She has been involved with such significant Canadian feature films as “Black Robe,” directed by Bruce Beresford and “Camilla,” starring the late Jessica Tandy.

In addition to her producing activities, Murdoch has been active in several industry-related organisations. She is currently on the Co-Chair of FilmOntario, an industry stakeholder consortium; and is also Co-Chair, along with Mayor David Miller, of the Toronto Film Board.

DAVID WEAVER (Director) – David Weaver is a graduate of the University of Toronto, where he was the recipient of the Fellowship for Film Studies, and Columbia University’s renowned Graduate Film Program, where his thesis film was selected for the prestigious William Morris Agency Student Showcase. While living in New York, he worked in film development for companies such as Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment.

Returning to Toronto, he served as Director Observer on Francois Girard’s “Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould” for Rhombus Media. He joined Rhombus as Development

Coordinator and worked on projects such as Yo-Yo Ma’s “Inspired by Bach.” Weaver then took a position at the Ontario Film Development Corporation as a Creative Analyst for Feature Film Production. He left the O.F.D.C. to become Head of Drama at Barna-Alper Productions, where he was heavily involved in the creation and financing of the award-winning CBC television series “Da Vinci’s Inquest,” and served as Production Executive on numerous other projects.

Weaver has written and directed numerous short films, including: “No Mystery,” “Drive,” “A Boy’s Own Story,” and “In Memory.” His short film “Moon Palace” premiered at the 2000 Toronto International Film Festival to critical acclaim and was sold to Hypnotic, an internet site partially owned by Universal Studios. Since its premiere, “Moon Palace” has been invited to more than 20 film festivals from Brazil to Japan, most notably, Clermont-Ferrand, one of the most prestigious short film festivals in the world. It will screen as one of the “Outstanding Shorts of the Year” at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City this coming May.

Weaver made his debut as a feature film writer-director with “Century Hotel,” co-written with Bridget Newson and produced by Victoria Hirst (“American Psycho”). It stars Colm Feore, Mia Kirshner, Tom McCamus, Raine Maida (“Our Lady Peace”) and Chantel Kreviazuk, among others. It premiered at the 2001 Toronto International Film Festival and screened at Cinefest Sudbury, the Atlantic Film Festival, the Vancouver International Film Festival, the Pusan Film Festival in South Korea, the Austin Film Festival, Austin, Texas, and the Cambridge Film Festival in Cambridge, England.

Weaver has several projects in development, including a feature-length version of “Moon Palace.” In addition, his screenplay “Eliza Fraser” has been sold to e’topia Pictures of New York and will be Executive Produced by Michael Hausman (“Gangs of New York”) and Edward R. Pressman (“Wall Street,” “American Psycho”). He frequently reviews books on cinema for the Globe & Mail newspaper.
