QATAR ABOUT QATAR Qatar has experienced remarkable economic growth in recent decades and is presently the richest country in the world as measured by GDP per capita, projecting long-term average growth of 9% beyond 2014. Qatar is the world’s largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The government is seeking to exploit revenues from oil and gas to diversify the economy. It is also seeking to encourage the development of the private sector and a knowledge economy. Qatar is home to the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), a financial and business center established by the government in 2005 to attract international financial services and multinational corporations , and develop the market for financial services in the region. In December 2010, Qatar won the rights to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and bring the event to the region for the first time. THE HOST COUNTRY OF THE 2022 WORLD CUP The Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup bid is the successful proposal from the government of Qatar to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Qatar, with a population of 1.69 million people, will be the first Arab state to host the World Cup. Qatar promoted their hosting of the tournament as representing the Arab World, and has drawn support from across the member states of the Arab League. They also positioned their bid as an opportunity to bridge the gap between the Arab World and the West. Qatar is currently bidding to host the 2020 Summer Olympic. EXISTING MAJOR ATTRACTION Al Markhiya region is a neighborhood of Doha, Qatar. A number of important cultural and sports institutions are based in Al Markhiya including: 1. Al Markhiya Sports Club 2. Qatar Foundation: for Education, Science and Community Development. 3. West Bay: considered as one of the most prominent districts of Doha 4. Lusail City: where the new Lusail Iconic Stadium, with a capacity of 86,250, will host the opening and final matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. 5. Doha Cornish: Diplomatic Area 6. Playing at Al Sadd Stadium, Al Duhail struck in the tenth minute of the injury time through a spot kick. Alarabi who was entrusted with the kick sent the ball past the Al Sadd keeper in the last kick of the match to give them the coveted trophy, the second one of the season. Al Duhail got the spot kick awarded through a Video Assistant referee (VAR). Referee Abdulla Ali Athba referred a decision to the VAR as Al Duhail claimed a spot kick. The VAR awarded the decision in favour of Al Duhail with the field referee pointing to the spot kick, a decision which evoke protests from the Al Sadd coach and players. Finally after much drama on and off the field, Alarabi kept his cool to send the Al Sadd goal- keeper Saad Abdulla Al Dosari the wrong way with his spot kick conversion. The defending champions went into the half time break with a 1-0 lead, having scored in the 29th minute through Hassan Al Haydos.
