The growth, strength and inter- supportiveness of these four pillars are key to spreading of the Swaminarayan Faith. Lord Shree Swaminarayan has acknowledged these pillars and laid down the key responsibilities for each of the pillars. He instructed his Nand-Santos to write Shastras which helped the devotees to perform devotion (Bhakti), acquire true knowledge (Gnan), practice righteous living (Dharma) and develop non- attachment to every thing material except Supreme God, Lord Shree Swaminarayan (Vairagya). There are nine types of bhakti, of which, Lord Shree Swaminarayan has singled out Kirtan Bhakti as one of the most important and fundamental in our devotion to God.

SRI THIRUKKUDANTHAI DESIKAN’S SRI DESIKA SAHASRA NAAMAMS RELATED TO SATHADHUSHANI INTRODUCTION: adiyEn’s humble PraNAmams to all Sri VaishNava AchAryaas prior to commencing to share with you what little adiyEn knows about this SrI Sookthi of Satha dhUshaNi. Satha dhUshaNi is recognized as “a polemical classic of VisihtAdhvaitha VedAntha devoted to the criticism of Advaitha VedAntha”. The most logical and scholastic/authoritative arguments advanced by Swamy Desikan sadagopan.org in the sixty Six VaadhAs of Satha dhUshaNi refute the untenability of central doctrines of Advaitha VedAntha along the lines elaborated by AchArya RaamAnuja in His magnum Opus, Sri BhAshyam. One of the central doctrines of Adhvaitha VedAntha is: “Brahman is pure consciousness and is devoid of all attributes /determinations (nirvisEsham)”. Brahman constitutes the sole reality and everything else is illusory. Through his Sixty Six VaadhAs, Swamy Desikan refutes soundly these core doctrines. Through the use of a sound dialectical method, Swamy Desikan evaluates the Advaitha and VisishtAdhvaitha VedAnthas rigorously and establishes that the latter is the sounder one. The advaitha vEdAntha of pre-desika period is presented here and then the Darsanam of AchArya RaamAnuja is presented. As Dr. S.M.S. Chari has observed, we are the beneficiaries of understanding the two Vedanthic systems “expounded by two great master minds- Sankara and RaamAnuja” through Satha dhUshaNi.

Battle and Self-Sacrifice in a Bengali Warrior’s Epic: Lausen’s Quest to be a Raja in Dharma Ma2gal* INTRODUCTION Plots and Themes harma Ma2gal are long, narrative Bengali poems that explain and justify the worship of Lord Dharma as the D eternal, formless, and supreme god. Surviving texts were written between the mid-seventeenth and the mid-eighteenth centuries. By examining the plots of Dharma Ma2gal, I hope to describe features of a precolonial Bengali warriors” culture. I argue that Dharma Ma2gal texts describe the career of a hero and raja, and that their narratives seem to be designed both to inculcate a version of warrior culture in Bengal, and to contain it by requiring self-sacrifice in both battle and “truth ordeals.” Dharma Ma2gal *I thank Ralph W.
